At first glance from the menu we were hesitant. Seemed like such a wide fusion of styles between asian/american/mexican styles that we weren't sure how it'd turn out. We decided to roll the dice, and I'm so glad we gave it a shot. Genuinely some of the best food I've had in a long time. I ordered thr Korean fried chicken and the chicken was perfectly soft and juicy with a fantastic sauce. The fries I got with it were also the perfect balance of crisp on the outside with a soft and fresh inside. My sister got a posole that she praised as just as good or better than any she's had from other authenitc Mexican restaurants or even our own family. My fiancée got the 2 year award winning Mac and cheese. We all tried the fried chicken that came with the mac and it was phenomenal. She loved the mac and cheese, but needed a to go box. Later we had some of her family over and had them each try a bit of the Mac and cheese. Her mom couldn't out it down and her sister's face lit up from the first bite. Even having it cold it was a definite hit. Before we left we got an order of waffles to split and that really solidified Tucked Away not only as a new go-to restaurant, but one of the places we'd have to take people from out of town looking for a great local spot. Our waiter told us that it'd be a bit of a wait as the batter was being freshly made, but it looked like the whipped cream was also made fresh as well, as it had a creamier, thicker consistency you usually only get when hand whipping. The waffles were perfectly cooked and even without the fruit or cream were immensely flavorful. I'm not sure what was in the batter but there was a fantastic sweetness to it. Really rounded out a phenomenal lunch and considering all menu items we tried were perfect, I'd say there's no way to go wrong with Tucked Away. Only other thing I'd add is that depending on when you go there may be a bit of a wait for food/a table but it's absolutely worth the wait, and the bar can take good care of you in...
Read moreMet up with some family here on a Thursday night after work. Of the five of us, four of us had main courses that were incredibly tasty. I had the enchiladas which was out of my usual realm but very tasty and every bite of brisket was savory, I was recommended the fried egg on top and it turned out to be the perfect touch. My cousin got the tuna steak sandwich "which" I sampled and it was the highlight of the flavor-town trip for sure. My brother got their Las Cruches burger and as far as burgers go.. so does this one, it was a fantastic sharp flavor with the green chiles hinting but not overpowering every mouthful. Probably the most fly over dish en route to flavor-town was the Shrimp Gambas (and this could simply be my preference) as I felt the flavors were far too subtle... I think the idea is a very simple dish IE from menu: shrimp sautéed in garlic-infused olive oil & a touch of sweetness from sherry... It could just be me but I felt the sauce used did not adhere with the shrimp well. Definitely edible but not keen to my pallet. We also ordered a side of their award winning green chili mac. unfortunately, i think because we had so much food ordered it came out not quite cold but only slightly warm.. YET I could tell that the ratio of creamy to cheesy was awesome and the subtleties of the chilis was more than satisfactory. Finished up with some cheescake but im not much for sweets so I wont be a very great judge on that. Though I will say I dont care much for cheesecake but the texture of this seemed far enough from traditon that I enjoyed it!
The atmosphere was perfect alongside the service. If you live in Mesa you need to...

After many great reviews and high praise we were pretty excited to try out tucked away. The menu seemed interesting the reputation had us excited. Unfortunately in the end our food was good but not great and our service was basically non-existent. We were constantly being forgotten about right from the start, and by the end another server had to bring us our check after he saw we had been sitting there waiting with empty plates and drinks for 25 minutes.
As for the food, we feel like something was off in the kitchen tonight. For one thing it took around 45 minutes for our food to come out, and seemed to be a similar story for the tables around us. When it did come out it was not nearly to the quality we were led to expect. Under seasoned and pretty unfresh tasting. Almost like it had spent half that time under a heat lamp. The flavors were pretty alright, if not for the service I would give the food a 3 star.
The service was easily a one star experience though so I'm forced to meet in the middle at 2.
Because we thought there must be something out of the ordinary going on in the kitchen and with such a good reputation, we were interested in coming back to try it again at first. Then we were left abandoned at our table for nearly half an hour without so much as a glance from our server. We aren't interested in going through that again and...
