I wanted to love this place, but I just couldn't. Firstly, the entrance is at the side of the building, and there are no signs to point to it, which makes it hard to find. When I was there the front door was left open... in the middle of Miami...in summer... while serving raw fish... that left room for a lot of fruit flies. The theme was my biggest qualm. As you enter, on the left there is an area that has all the cherry blossoms and private area- but it's at the entrance, and essentially everyone is seeing you as they walk in. The area isn't that big, it probably has 4 seats over there with the exception of bar stools.Once you walk beyond that, the vast majority of the place looks like a combination of Panera bread and Starbucks. I sat in that area. It isn't private. It isn't fun. I sat there and watched several couples come in and ask to be reseated to somewhere more private and cozy, which at that point was in a corner. The middle of the restaurant where the open ceiling is is aesthetically pleasing, except for the fact that they make the sushi right there and ALL the waiters hang out in that one area. It makes the place look disorganized and goes against the high class theme of the restaurant. The decor inside the bathroom is aesthetically pleasing. Thank goodness for the handicapped sign that's one bathroom door because if it weren't for that we wouldn't know where the door handle was. Two ladies came in and I showed them where the handle was, while I waited on someone in my party to finish. The DJ played ok music.. house music when I was there. You can't go wrong with that. The salmon in the sushi melts in your mouth. Aside from Makoto, this was the freshest sushi I've had. Very nice salmon. The portion size of the sushi is half the size of a normal roll. Literally. We ordered two rolls each, lamb, salad, miso cod (which they didn't soak because the inside was flavorless), and STILL had to order a pizza when we went home. The portion sizes were underwhelming to say the least. The bill for two persons came up to $287, and when we left we were still hungry. They serve the lamb one single lamb chop for around $34. It has a unique taste, I wouldn't go crazy for it. The staff were all nice, and the manager walks around and makes eye contact while smiling. The theme is too confusing. It is obvious they were trying to cater to a young, college kid crowd, but the average college kid can't and won't want to frequent here unless they're with someone on a date or something. The portion size was far too small...

I made a reservation about a week before I headed to Miami and called the restaurant the day of to inquire about their dress code. I should’ve asked for her name but the madam who answered the phone was super bubbly, giggly and said to “come as you are”. Upon arrival, we were greeted (by said madam) and they acknowledged we were celebrating a graduation that afternoon. The restaurant was beautiful, and though it seemed like we were the only two dining in the restaurant, I personally took it as a positive. No long wait times and quick service.
We ordered the nikkei menu deluxe and then also some other dishes like the spicy tuna crispy rice, amazonian bbq salmon & asado de tira. One after another, when we finished one dish, we’ll receive another. Everything came to the table quick and hot. We didn’t feel we were being rushed at all. My favorite dishes of the night had to be the amazonian bbq salmon [tender, not dry at all, amazing curry sauce], asado de tira [purple potato purée complimented the short rib, melts in your mouth!], tentáculos de pulpo [not chewy nor tough, plating was beautiful], and the wagyu sirloin! The deluxe menu was great for us to try a variety of items.
Our server John was phenomenal! He was very courteous and I appreciated his excellent timing during our meal. I informed him that I preferred sweeter cocktails and he recommended the flor de manzana. Of course, it was great. His second recommendation was the peach pisco and I was a bit worried about the egg whites as an ingredient, but I enjoyed it regardless. Drinks were complementary to the meal. The server asistant (i’m assuming—wish I gotten her name too 😭) was also very kind and she explained every dish thoroughly. I never lifted a finger to do anything. She constantly switched my plates out and made sure I had a clean surface before the next course.
The bill came out to be $400 for 2. Some may find it steep, but you’re paying for the excellent service and environment as well. I, myself am a server in Atlanta and the Chotto Matte staff executed the steps of service perfectly to the t. Each and every interaction in the restaurant made me feel welcomed and so pleasant to be there. See...
