My wife and I came here for dessert only. We've seen the hype around their desserts and had high hopes. We had the oreo milkshake. This was the biggest let down in culinary history and shows that not everything thats hyped is quality. The milkshake comes topped with a scoop of plain vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two churros that only has sugar on the outside. After the first bite, the inner parts of the churro are completely flavorless. The ice cream itself was, as mentioned before, regular vanilla ice cream. Nothing special. Once you suffer through the churro and get to the mason jar/mug you realize that the screwing part (or the rim), which is pretty thick, is all whip cream. This is hidden by a slather of nutella around the rim. The shake itself was the most watery shake that I've ever had in my life. I think the only dairy component in it was the oreo ice cream that they watered down. It tasted like oreo ice cream flavored water. It was not thick at all and it was a huge waste of $20. I have never left a restaurant more dissatisfied. This is an establishment that cares more about what their dishes look like on Instagram than they do the actual taste and quality. Its like that IG model who looks beautiful but is shallow and has nothing to offer and wants to take your money. Insulting. Avoid this place at all costs. There are PLENTY of better options...
Read moreYou truly get what you pay for. I really enjoyed my experience at Bocas Grill.
My first interaction was with a very nice hostess inviting me to my seat. I sat at the bar, but was shocked to see her bring a personal light for me to be able to see (you can tell in the photos referenced here).
The menu was very well designed and gets several points in my book for presentation. I love the fact that I had plenty to chose from on the menu (from drinks to appetizers to entrees and dessert). Willmard took great care of me and was very patient guiding me through some well-known favorites. She was also very natural in conversing with me through the evening.
Raul, one of the leaders of the establishment, came to personally introduce himself while I waited for my meal. Not only did I find it great that he learned about me through Willmard, but he took the time to meet many of the customers and get to know them.
Once my food was served, Raul brought me a 'secret sauce' he was testing in the kitchen -- he wants to use it on some of the plates for the upcoming week. It was delicious; all of the food I had was fantastic! The skirt steak was juicy and tender. I had the Congri and French Fries to go with it. The beef empanadas had lots of flavor -- or as I like to say "sabor!"
Overall, the food, atmosphere and impeccable service make this...
Read moreThis place is alive! I love to walk into a restaurant where people are engaged in conversation, and the music is lively. We went on a Thursday evening and the place was busy. They have indoor and outdoor seating and we sat inside. We were a party of four. The Hostess was friendly she lead us to a table with 2 chairs and a curved both for 2 people. The chairs were not comfortable and the curved booth wasn't either. Our waiter was super friendly we asked to be moved and he found us a fantastic, comfortable circular booth. We ordered a blue sangria, Pisco Sour and a fruit smoothly, all delicious. We ordered the the appetizer that included tequenos, arepas with two dipping sauces and octopus. I am not a fan of octopus but enjoyed the rest. For the main course we went with a shareable platter called Padilla mixta. This platter had steak, chicken, sausage, salad, yucca, guacamole, and tostones with dipping sauces. We requested medium for the steak and came to us more on the rare side. Sent it back to cook a little more and it was divine! Desert was a Nutella shake with 2 donuts on top and a scoop of vanilla ice cream with nutella. It was amazing!! Overall, I loved the place, the atmosphere, the personnel and the food. Slam...
