We started with the Ceviche Clásico, and it was everything ceviche should be—vibrant, fresh, and full of citrusy brightness. The fish was pristine, marinated to perfection, and paired with just the right amount of heat and crunch. It was the ideal opener, awakening the palate and hinting at the brilliance to come.
Next came the appetizers, and both were knockouts. The Spicy Bluefin Tuna was a standout—delicate yet bold, with a slow-building heat that added complexity without overwhelming the fish. The Hamachi Nigiri was melt-in-your-mouth exquisite, capturing the essence of clean, refined flavor in a single bite.
For mains, we had two showstoppers. The El Pato del Dios de Sipán felt truly godlike—succulent duck with rich, earthy spices and layers of flavor that nodded to deep-rooted Peruvian traditions. The Ragú Ossobuco was comfort food elevated to fine art: impossibly tender meat, deeply flavorful sauce, and perfect accompaniments that made every bite better than the last.
The mocktails deserve their own praise. Thoughtfully crafted and visually stunning, they balanced freshness, acidity, and herbal depth beautifully. Mayu doesn't just serve Peruvian food—it tells a story with every dish, blending bold flavors, vibrant ingredients, and cultural soul into an unforgettable dining experience with unique cocktails. My bartenders Renato and Cris served up some AMAZING cocktails (I had the Inti, T’Ika, and Chicha Jayqa) described the menu in great detail and helped me curate my culinary experience…I cannot give them enough praise!
I began with the ceviche classico, featuring corvina, leche de tigre, lime, choclo, crispy sweet potato, and cancha. The perfect texture of the dish was only accentuated by the bright flavors and artful presentation - it was hands down THE best ceviche I’ve ever eaten. I continued with the acevichado, an amazing warm sushi roll with shrimp tempura, yuzu avevichado sauce, avocado, cucumber, chives, togarachi, and crispy yuca strings. I finished with the causa - a dish featuring purple potato, chicken, avocado aioli, rocoto leche de tigre, boiled egg, and botija olives. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the combination of flavors was unlike anything I’ve had before.
Every dish I had at Mayu offered a genuine surprise and is made with intention and authenticity. This isn’t just a meal—it’s a journey through Peruvian culture, all on a plate. I’m in town visiting for business and had several other restaurants on my radar, but I will be coming back to Mayu every night for the rest of my trip.
The only disappointing part of my trip was that they wouldn’t sell me one of the authentic Peruvian mugs they had at the restaurant 😂.
