I can barely express how disappointed and angry I am at this place. It has gone WAY downhill in the last several years and is nowhere near 5 stars. The issue that is the most frustrating is that they just charged me a random amount and it took nearly two weeks to just get an itemized invoice (after half a dozen calls and emails and reaching out on social media). When I sent my confirmation email with the total I was supposed to be charged, and they said that it was wrong. There was a random discrepancy of about $70 that they blamed on resort fees, which is complete BS given the resort fees were already in the total that I got in my email confirmation AND they don't even add up to that amount given the fee for each day is $38+taxes. Makes literally no sense. They also charged me for a breakfast that was supposed to be free with the rate, though after some back and forth they removed it from the bill.
Aside from the billing issues, the service was just subpar the entire time. The room/pool weren't all bad, though. There were a couple of good points. First, one positive: the room was absolutely gigantic, though sparsely furnished. The bed was also comfortable and blackout curtains were truly blackout to the point I couldn't see my own hand in front of my face even after several minutes of adjusting to the dark. Second, the pool is gorgeous and rarely crowded. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end for me.
When I checked in, they didn't have any water and offered to bring some up. That didn't happen. They also have a "room service" situation after 5pm that involves you ordering pickup from this one restaurant and the front desk sending someone to get it for you, apparently. The restaurant and hotel don't communicate at all as far as I could tell, despite it being called room service and on a printed menu in the room. I talked to the front desk and she explained how it worked, so I tried it, and when they still hadn't brought it up 95 minutes later I called again. Turns out they just never sent someone before, so my $75 meal was completely cold and not even safe to eat since it was fish.
Because of my rewards status, I'm supposed to get automatic (and free) late check in and check out. They offered me 30 mins extra. I've never had late checkout refused in my entire life, even at tiny motels, and usually the first amount of extra time they offer you is 1-3 hours after the stated checkout (esp. on random days of the week when clearly very few people, if any, would be checking in that day). I asked them to double check since it's a benefit I'm supposed to receive and they said it's just hotel policy regardless. Extremely bizarre/abnormal for what is supposed to be a 5 star hotel.
The last items of note are just a random assortment of weird things that I would not expect at all from a hotel of this alleged quality. It all just screams penny pinching and is just about the polar opposite of luxury. There was no lotion in the room. The bodywash, etc., were bolted to the wall in the shower, so you couldn't use anything if you'd decided to take a bath. The bathroom/room were aging and had some loose floorboards and built up grime in the corners. There is only one restaurant; options are extremely limited and it closes at 5pm. It's unclear if there's a spa or not as it looked like there was a door to one, but the website was wiped of any info about it and it wasn't mentioned at checkin. The free drink ticket doesn't cover any cocktails as it's capped at $18 and those (and all but 2 or 3 wines even) are all $19+. There were other dumb debacles re: a can of water and whether I could grab a drink at the bar after checkout.
It seems like the closure of the regular SLS Brickell caused this one to go down the drain as well. Really disappointed. Given all of the billing issues, definitely won't be back. I would have given it another try if it weren't for that mess. If this were advertised as even a 4 star hotel, my view would be totally different, but it's unacceptable for 5. I don't pay extra to be...
Read moreI stayed at SLS LUX Brickell this past weekend and overall had a very good experience. The hotel itself is stunning — from its upscale finishes and luxurious ambiance to its vibrant location in the heart of Brickell. You can tell a lot of thought went into the design and decor, and it really does feel like a luxury stay.
We received a complimentary room upgrade upon check-in, which was appreciated. However, the upgrade placed us on the second floor out of nine, which wasn’t quite what we expected. We were told the hotel was fully booked, but after checking online, we noticed other rooms were still available on higher floors. The room we received was beautifully appointed, but came with a queen-size bed rather than the king-size that had been advertised.
The balcony was a nice touch, though it faced one of the busiest intersections in Brickell, directly across from the East Hotel. While I didn’t personally mind the city noise, there was very little sense of privacy on the balcony, which may be a consideration for others.
Housekeeping did an excellent job keeping the room clean and tidy each day, although only one fresh washcloth was provided daily — a small but noticeable detail.
One of the biggest drawbacks during our stay was the front desk staff. With the exception of a couple standout employees, the service was lacking warmth and hospitality. There was one gentleman in particular who consistently avoided eye contact or greetings each time we passed the front desk, which felt a bit off-putting. At a hotel of this caliber, I expected a more welcoming and attentive front desk experience.
It’s also important to note that there is a $250 per night deposit, which may catch some guests off guard if they’re not aware in advance.
Aside from these concerns, the hotel offers a solid range of amenities, including a decent gym (though it could be improved), and a truly beautiful atmosphere throughout the property. We were fortunate to get a good deal for a weekend stay, which made the experience even more worthwhile.
Overall, I would recommend SLS LUX Brickell and would consider staying again. Hoping the hospitality improves a bit next time around to match the luxury of the...
