For such a beautiful establishment in a great location on the water in Brickell, American Social fell way short of our expectations. The service and food and overall experience were all terrible. My buddy and I are both super low-maintenance and easygoing people, but we felt agitated almost the entire time by the terrible service, lack of hospitality, and overall frustrating time. We paid for 3 hours of parking time and were excited to spend our time and money there for the entire 3 hours. We sat at the bar around 5pm. The place was pretty much dead with not many tables occupied (both inside and outside) and only 4 people at the bar while we had a tab open. Joce and Ben had no rhythm or chemistry behind the bar and no attentiveness whatsoever. Not sure how the bartenders somehow get weeded in a restaurant that barely has any guests in it at the time and can’t acknowledge their bar guests to see if they need another drink when their glasses have been empty for over 20 minutes. The bartenders wouldn’t even look up or pay attention as they walked by, and we pretty much had to flag them down and call out their name to be given any type of attention when we needed something. In terms of the food, we ordered basic appetizers that took over 30 minutes to be given to us. Like I said, if the place was busy I’d understand (even though the appetizers were basic finger foods that shouldn’t take over 30 mins to leave the kitchen when the place was dead). The goat cheese croquettes were good but that’s about the only positive thing I can say about our experience other than the restaurant being stunning and beautiful. The chicken quesadilla was soggy and awful, with no crisp whatsoever to the tortilla, garnished with discolored and nasty looking guacamole and drizzled with sour cream that was dry and crusty when it was given to us. The bartenders never came up to us after we ordered our first round of drinks and food, never asked how our cocktails were, never asked how our food was, never made eye contact with us, never acknowledged us to see if we wanted another drink. Keep in mind, we’re chill and easygoing people. It wouldn’t have taken much to please us and satisfy our minimal expectations. By the time Joce and Ben asked us if we wanted another drink, we had been finished most of our food and we had finished our drinks for more than 30 minutes as the glasses were sitting empty and needing to be pre-bussed that whole time. We initially were going to get at least 3-4 drinks there and possibly entrees, but the appetizers took forever and we were pretty much being ignored and neglected. We had seen enough and capped off our lame experience there after about 45 mins. We only had one drink and subpar appetizers that took forever and you’ll continue to leave a lot of money on the table if this is common practice in your restaurant. We would’ve stayed much longer and spent more money, but they simply didn’t deserve our business. Wishing you all the best and hoping you all improve...
Read moreAmerican Social left a lot to be desired today. It set itself up to be very promising from the beginning. The host/manager was very kind on his approach when walking in even though one would think that he may not be since he was wearing sunglasses as part of his uniform. Nevertheless he was gracious and laid back. I found my party of 3 and walked towards them, all while noticing the vibrant vibe of the place. They had been given a great table close to the water. The views are great, a beautiful Brickell skyline nestled into the bay is front and center. Sunday party boats called my attention and kept the place fresh. Shay, our lovely server approached me and offered to get me something to drink which was American coffee. Soon after she came back with it, and took our food order. She was really the best part of our visit. Genuine, friendly and focused service. Mentioned that the coffee took a while because it was made fresh, which I acknowledged as being a good thing. Unfortunately that is as good as it gets for me. The coffee may have been made fresh but I would say that, that was a stretch or simply poorly over brewed coffee. We ordered two starters, wings and a PB&J loaf. And we all ordered our own mains. Unfortunately the mains arrived before the appetizers. Minutes later the appetizers show up, and the wings which were supposed to have had their sauce on the side as she had suggested didn't. They also only came with ranch although Shay said she would send blue cheese also. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and boy, I have had hella better biscuits and gravy at any dinner I've ever been to. The biscuits were dry and hard and over baked. The gravy was tasteless. I'm sorry it's been a while since I have had such bad food at a restaurant. My friends seemed to have had a better experience although one did say that the bread for his burger was also dry and hard. That's pretty much...
Read moreI had one of the most disappointing hospitality experiences at American Social Brickell.
A week before my reservation, I called to arrange seating for a large group of 26 people. The hostess told me to book several smaller reservations (7–8 people each) and that we’d be seated together in the same area. Two days before, I called back to confirm and was reassured this was fine.
However, when I called again later that day, the general manager picked up and was shockingly rude, telling me I was being “difficult” and showing zero interest in accommodating us. For a group bringing that much business — many guests new to American Social — this was extremely unprofessional.
When we arrived, things only got worse. On our way there one of the parties was running late and decided to call to give them a heads up. He again picked up the general manager and said how difficult things were and that maybe we shouldn’t come.We were told we only had 90 minutes at the table before being removed, which discouraged us from even ordering bottomless. I simply asked our server if she thought it was worth it, and she rudely interrupted my friend saying, “sorry, your friend’s yelling at me.” I never raised my voice once. The way she spoke to us was humiliating and even brought me to tears.
The only moment of kindness I experienced was when the manager noticed how upset I was after the server’s behavior.
Overall, I brought 26 guests and gave American Social a huge amount of business, but I will never return after being treated this way. Many of my local friends who came with me also said they won’t be back. There are far too many restaurants in Miami that value their customers — unfortunately, American Social is not one of them.if you want a good bottom experience go to Barsecco or Rusty pelican because I went there on Sunday and I had the best time better atmosphere and...
