Our recent lunch visit to Ritz Klub Tavern in downtown Michigan City was a bit of a mixed bag. This no-frills, typical pub offers an array of fried fare, with a simple menu featuring traditional pub food. To start, we ordered a hearty Bavarian pretzel with pub cheese and a small side of cheese curds. The pretzel, while light and fluffy, was paired with cheese curds that were somewhat lacking in their expected crunchy and cheesy characteristics. Moreover, the upcharge for the ranch dip felt a bit unnecessary. The main courses were a mixed experience. My companion ordered a fried fish basket with sweet potato fries, but was mistakenly served regular fries. Though the staff was quick to correct the error by removing the upcharge from the bill, the incident was a bit of a downer. The fish, while adequately cooked, lacked any remarkable flavor. The regular fries that came with both our meals were disappointingly soft and seemed to be unseasoned. My chicken tender wrap, on the other hand, was the most redeeming food item we had. The chicken was cooked well and the wrap was flavorful, providing a high note in an otherwise average meal. The serving style at Ritz Klub Tavern definitely contributed to the overall feeling of mediocrity. All meals were served on plastic plates or in paper baskets, and plastic silverware was preset at the tables. This presentation undoubtedly took away from the dining experience and made it feel less elevated than it could have been. In conclusion, given the other options available in the vicinity, the Ritz Klub Tavern falls a bit short in terms of food quality and overall dining experience. While it's not the worst option for a casual meal, it's not a place I would actively recommend, considering the other culinary offerings nearby.

I was recently in town for a Labor Day weekend trip with the family. We found this place online and looked right up our alley (elevated bar food that’s family friendly) sadly we were disappointed! Upon arrival there is a sign saying to have a bartender or server seat you. After standing there for several minutes watching waiters and bartenders not acknowleding us, I asked a patron at the bar if we seat ourselves. It was a nice day so we sat outside. Once we were outside after several minutes the bartenders took our initial order. Pretzel with beer cheese, kids meals, and their “famous” Jamaican wings. The pretzel and beer cheese was top tier! 10/10! Kids meals were basic fried chicken tenders and shrimp with fresh cut fry’s. (Unfortunately the fries were unsalted and not crispy. Wings were basic bar wings. If your going to put famous on the menu they gotta be better the basic bar wings. It was windy so we went inside. My wife and I ordered a burger each. They both tasted frozen and my wife’s didn’t have the special sauces. I had also ordered spicey fries (.50 up charge) did not receive them it was normal fires. Overall besides the pretzel and beer I wouldn’t recommend. Also service was slow and items were incorrect.

Ruben lives up to the awards. Porker was really good. House made chips and beer cheese awesome. Vegan black bean burger was a good option for my sister in law. Spicy fries good. Not too salty. Cajun wings were nice and crispy. Little too much Cajun however not salty which was a plus. My fish which was the salt vinger batter cod was just ok. I probably would have preferred a beer battered fish. They have Guinness add to the fish batter recipe. Server was super nice and the live music kept the crowd happy.

Would rather give a 3.5 stars. Service and atmosphere was great. Really good fries, especially the loaded fries. Given the the quality of fixins on my fish sandwich and the fact that they used boars head meats I'd bet that their sandwiches are pretty good.

The downsides were the wings and and fish sandwich. The wings only come with "dry-rub" though you can get sauce on the side. Their dry-rub isn't traditional dry rub, but some kind of seasoned batter coating. My girlfriend hated it though I didn't mind and thought it tasted it pretty good. My issue is the wings themselves, they were oddly very fatty. It was hard to find any actual meat even on the drummies. I've never had such fatty wings. It was like there was no actual muscle/meat....as if the chicken never stood up or walked around. So this ruined them for me.

Regarding the fish sandwich, the fillet looked like it came straight out of a box, just not good quality at all. It was greasy and bready. The bun and fixins were good though.

Overall this place isn't bad you just have to know going in that the food quality doesn't quite line up with the the Google Maps rating and the visual appearance of this place.

I'd go back but I'd probably stick to the fries and the deli-meat...
