the food is amazing..the ambience was perfect. we went for our wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint. our service was wonderful and friendly. the hostess that treated us made us feel at home. the chef/slash owner said hi! all of the wait stuff works together well to form an amazing team. I had a cocktail with elderberry that I did not get the name but it was decent sized. not cheap but but good sized for the price. my husband ate the rib eye with fries and the escargot starter plate. I had the beef bourguignon. and beets with a brie as a starter. it was to die for..I'd go back just for beets..lots of plates of the beets. my beef was tender and melted in my mouth.the potatoes were smooth and creamy. my husband did say his frites were a little salty for him. but the homemade bearnaise sauce was just perfect and some of the best he has had..I tasted it and was a little jealous.. Wow—what an incredible surprise! My friend and I stumbled upon Heron Bistro last night, and it instantly became a new favorite. From the moment we stepped in, we were struck by the ambiance: dark, moody, and romantic, with vintage light fixtures lining the bar, a breathtaking beach glass installation at the back, and captivating murals throughout the space.
The food? Absolutely divine. I regret not snapping a photo of the presentation—it was as beautiful as it was delicious. Each small plate was thoughtfully crafted, and the Spanish Rioja we chose paired flawlessly, elevating the entire experience. The creme brulee melted in our mouths and was the perfect finish to a scrumptious meal.
A special shout-out to our server, Miranda, who was warm, attentive, and made us feel completely at home. Her thoughtful recommendations and friendly demeanor added so much to the evening.

Read moreMy sister, my mom, and I had a fantastic experience at The Heron Bistro. Miranda, our server, was exceptional. She was very attentive and friendly. The cocktails were perfect, the bread service delicious , and all of our entrees were great. My sister ordered the onion soup au gratin and it was hearty but not heavy and had a perfect balance of sweetness from the perfectly caramelized onions and sharpness from the Gruyère. The Bernaise sauce was done perfectly for the steak frites. I had the market fish, which was fish and chips. It was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The crème brûlée was a wonderful end to our meal. We highly, highly recommend The Heron Bistro. It is an excellent addition to Michigan City’s...
