Highland Fish Market (Middletown) — Restaurant in Middletown

WOW. I just discovered that this great store sells frozen conch from the Bahamas. If you think frozen is not as good as fresh conch, you are mistaken. (Even the big stores in Marsh Harbor, Bahamas, sell only frozen ones).

It comes in a box of 5 pounds, at $99. If they don't have it available that day, they order it and you have it within 24 hours. I appreciate that great service .

Anyway, I thaw it until I can separate the individual conch pieces, and put 2 or 3 in individual zip lock bags and re-freeze them.

I completely thawed 3 before yesterday, and marinated them overnight in OJ, while stored in the refrigerator. I then diced the conch, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, bell peppers and cilantro - and added Kosher salt and plenty of freshly squeezer lime juice.

The biggest surprise was how the crunchiness and texture of the frozen conch was no different than if you eat it on the beach, prepared by local fishermen in the Bahamas.

I savored my heavenly conch salad, spiced up by Matouk hot sauce and Sands beer, both local staples in the Bahamas.

The Highland Fish Market is by far the best source of seafood in the city, mostly fresh items flown in overnight, or, when appropriate, expertly frozen.

The ABSOLUTE FRESHEST AND BEST FISH IN TOWN HANDS DOWN! When I first moved into Middletown I was in the search of the best seafood/fish. I tried going to Kroger (never again!). I tried Fresh Market (it was pre-frozen and obviously took away the quality). That’s when I discovered Highland Fish Market and have been going there almost weekly for years! The fish is fresh-caught and wonderful! Even my picky kids LOVE it (we often get salmon and my kids call it “the pink chicken” and request the “pink chicken” for dinner when asked!). The business is run by a local father and son and are extremely knowledgeable about the seafood industry as well as each of the products they sell. I know people comment on the prices but we do live in the middle of a large continent with ocean coasts not close! So I can only imagine shipping fresh fish in daily isn’t cheap! And I’m a believer in “you get what you pay for!”... and if you want high-quality fish, this is the only place to shop to find that! I’m thankful they are right here in Middletown! Thanks for continuing to provide our community with the highest quality seafood! I plan to continue to support this local business on a weekly basis and highly recommend them to anyone who appreciates high-quality, super-fresh...

This is the only place I will buy fresh seafood in Louisville. Speaking as a professional chef of over 13 years, when I moved to Louisville from the west coast, I was almost resigned to being without a source for high quality fish in such a land-locked city. Somehow, the Hirsch men who own/run Highland Fish Market manage to reliably provide an incredible selection of impressively high quality fish and seafood products. They are knowledgable, friendly and truly care about not only what they do, but the experience of their customers -- most of whom quickly become regular. While I'm not going to tell you they have bargain prices, they are more than fair for what you are getting for your dollar. If you care about quality and integrity when it comes to the fish you cook for yourself, and/or feed to your family, this is the only place in Louisville you should be...
