I have been to china palace a few times before and have had okay experiences...but my last visit was HORRIBLE! Me and three of my friends decided we were going to get lunch... with one of us just wanting a drink...since we knew that China Palace had a bar it would work good for us that are eating and us that were not. After my friend ordered a drink the owner came over to the table and said that she would not be able to sell her a drink seeing the fact she isn't 21....which is a problem seeing the fact she was 22. the lady argued with our table for about 5 minutes telling us that their calendar didn't match her ID....after us showing her the math and telling her she is wrong she came to the conclusion that her calendar was old. OK..stuff happens, we laughed and let it go. when our food came around my chicken fried rice was not that,,,fried at all. The food was horrible. when the waitress came around my friends spoke up for me (I was just going to deal with it and eat it) and told them that I didn't like my food. Rather than wait 20 more minutes while my friends are already eating, for something new, I decided I was okay with nothing and told them so. Well, around comes the owner again telling me that she was sorry about the food and wanted me to try something else...after me telling her I was okay and her insisting; I caved and ordered sesame chicken. when my food came I took one bite and couldn't believe that this was even worse! the chicken was all breading and very old tasting. my friends all tried it and couldn't believe that this dish could have possibly been worse! Again, I left it alone and decided to just pay for my meal and get out of here....when my bill came around they had charged me for the sesame chicken which was two more dollars than the fried rice, which was when I became upset, I told the waitress I would pay for the fried rice but I refused to pay for the other dish seeing the fact that was just as bad as the first one. After the owner came back AGAIN she told me that I would not have to pay for it and was very sorry....until she came back around a few minutes later and told me that she would have to charge me for the soup and crab cheese that I ate.....first off, those things come before your meal..how was I to know what would follow would be very poor. all in all was one of the worst experiences of my life... I will never be returning and...
Read moreWhile certainly not our only visit to the Palace, our latest visit was - okay. Not great, but not miserable either.
Situated in an odd corner of the business mall on Saginaw Road, across the road from McDonald's, it's not exactly hard to find, but you do have to look.
We've only been there at lunch time which is generally busy with lots of folks from Dow dropping in, so you know the place can serve some good food. Probably. Either that, or it's just the closest place that's not fast food. In any case, for lunch, you should plan on being there before noon if you want to avoid the crowds.
Oddly enough, in our several visits, I've never visited the bathroom, so I can't say anything about it's state of cleanliness or functionality. So I won't.
The menu is, surprise, Chinese food. A fairly standard selection we've generally not been disappointed. Until our last visit.
Though the Palace has a nice, and very popular buffet at lunch, we prefer to order off the menu. This last time I have to say the Sweet & Sour Pork was, for lack of a better word, bland. Not particularly sweet. Not particularly sour. Not much of any flavor at all, though the portion was generous. Sadly, my sisters meal was the same. Not much character or flavor. Though we took the leftovers home, they languished in the fridge till they got tossed. Maybe we hit them on a bad day, maybe they're getting used to serving the same old stuff and so don't take the care they might. I don't know. In any case, I was disappointed with our last visit and will vote for a different location, if my siblings don't...
Read moreI do not believe the positive reviews regarding this restaurant are a factual representation of the actual dining experience. perhaps our family has been spoiled after dining at the great wall in mount pleasant but I assure you this review is a fair one of our experience. After reading a number of reviews on various chinese restaraunts in the midland area we decided on the china palace. first of all the atmosphere of the restaurant leaves a bit to be desired but certainly not a huge issue, service from our waitress was fine. The food and price is the biggest disappointment of the experience. Most of our family was displeased with the quality of the food, the flavors were not very good at all, in fact the only things we agreed to be acceptable were the rice and shrimp. Perhaps a tad funny was the insult to injury, after being able to only finish 1/2 to 3/4 of the meal, was getting the bill. 4 buffet (only one visit each...by choice), 2 pop and a tea the bill was $52 plus some change And tip. Other chinese restaurants have 6 times the buffet size the prices are cheaper say $30ish and food quality keeps you coming back again and again. After this dining experience I can assure you this visit was our...
