The Gourmet Cupcake Shoppe — Restaurant in Midland

I went to this bakery for the first time on August 28th to see if I could have a custom cake made for my son's 16th birthday today, September 5th. The woman working behind the counter was a short heavy-set dark complected woman whose name I did not get. She seemed a little put out, but she asked me what I wanted. I pulled up an example of the cake I wanted and she explained that since there was black frosting in the design it would bleed into the other colors and wouldn't look good. So I then showed her another design. A white sheet cake Dallas Mavericks jersey and I wanted my son's last name and the number 16 on it. She told me that would be acceptable and that I needed to email the design to her. I pulled up my email on my phone and since their email address is long, I asked her to repeat it and spell it for me. She did. She took out a form and wrote down everything I told her I wanted and got my name and number and then I pulled out my card to pay. She told me that I was to pay for it when I pick it up. I asked her if it would for sure be ready on the 5th and what time I could pick it up. She said pick it up on the 5th when we open. She said if there was any problem or questions that they would call me. Sure enough, I went to pick up the cake this morning and there is no cake. No record of my order, no email because she spelled the email wrong. And my son's party is at 2pm. Of course that woman wasn't there this morning, but I described her to the two women working there and they said they knew who it was based on my description. They took my name and number to let the manager know what happened. They offered no solution and told me to "have a good weekend." So I left without a cake and I'm hosting a party in 2 hours. To say that I am livid is an understatement. I called Walmart and they said could make a custom mavericks cake and have it ready for me in two hours. I'm usually all about supporting small businesses, but I am thoroughly disgusted by the way this business operates and I will be sure to tell everyone I know and post on the askmidland fb page never to use this bakery. I've never had this happen before and I could've gone to any bakery, but I wanted to stay local and give them a chance. Never again. Go somewhere else to order your custom cakes to spare yourself the experience I just had. Utterly unprofessional and completely ridiculous. And Walmart not only had my custom cake ready ahead of time, they didn't make me pay for it until I picked it up.

Edit: Not only did they not "apologize profusely", they offered NO solution whatsoever. When I asked what am I supposed to do, the party is at 2 o'clock?!" I was given a sarcastic "I'm sorry." My entire experience from the moment I walked into the bakery all the way to the owner's response on this review has been disappointing. Food is good but customer service is lacking. I picked up an order Saturday evening (for my nephews class treat on Monday) the order was 20 cookies of specific shapes. I didn’t realize until later that night (after they closed) that the shapes were wrong. I fully take responsibility for not checking the boxes before I left, I was pretty clear in what I wanted, but I still should have checked. I called Monday morning and got no answer, called again Monday afternoon and was told that there was nothing they could do. No replacement, no refund, nothing. Was told “you still got the right amount so they can still enjoy them”. I suppose that’s correct, however I paid quite a bit of money for this order and it should have been corrected. The person I spoke to even said “we are sorry, we should have double checked it, but I still can’t do anything”. Doesn’t seem fair.

Edit to add: after I left this review and another on Facebook I was offered 2 free cookies and a $10 gift certificate. It did not solve the issue of the fact that the treats were needed for a specific day for a boys birthday and he got ALL pink flowers and NONE of the frogs that he asked for, but I do appreciate the...

Total bummer, I ordered the pop-up dinner of pulled pork, Mac and Cheese, and corn bake. The mac and cheese was made on 4/24 and given to me on the date of experation. When we tasted the mac it was like eating poison and curdled milk, my husband gagged and was unable to even swallow it. It was horrible .

At that point, we were not eating any of the food.

I contacted them and was told that they had eaten from the same food and it tasted fine to them. When I explained that it was absolutely not fine for us and was clearly and was clearly old food and that I was not willing to finish the meal. I offered to bring the uneaten food it, and have them try it. That was met with a no.

I suggested that if they didn't want to refund me, that I would take another pop up meal when they had something different.

They refused. They offered to comp a new Mac, which I refused, I was not risking it again.
