The moment I stepped in the door I could tell I was in a safe environment. It is cozy inside, with houseplants hanging from walls, (and even from a ladder that is also hanging from the ceiling), in planters that separate tables, in pots on shelves, and even in some of the paintings. This place was so well thought out. The carefulness and consideration of every aspect is extremely evident. From a stool for kids in the gender neutral bathrooms, to high and low accessible tables with plugs (at nearly every one), to small notebooks laying around with inspirational quotes that guests have left on their visits here. The artwork inside is amazing. There are tons of different styles. An old camera and books - shelves made of pallets and industrial pipes - a quote from Maya Angelou hanging from the wall - Modern, geometric lighting - But it is not chaotic... it is calm. Everything has its place and purpose, and I am constantly reminded with each sign on the wall that I am worthy, loved, & meant to be here today. I can hear Cavetown playing in the background of keyboards clicking and laughter coming from the other room, and the coffee machines doing their thing. It is peaceful. Nostalgic. and the smell of coffee makes it even better. But my favorite part of the day, besides my bacon/cheddar/broccoli quiche and blended latte with hazelnut and raspberry syrup, was hearing a barista teach other new baristas how to make this delicious coffee, carefully explaining to wet the filter first and how hot the water should be... and watching their eyes glow as they learned and her eyes glow as she explained it to them. This place feels like hard work that some wonderful folks put in. I hope it has paid them off and continues to do so for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAtmosphere is a little weird at times seems to give off a preppy/millennial vibe. Not the most comfortable setting. Ive been coming to this coffee shop for about 6 months after delivering to them through a side hussle; over those 6 months of getting coffee here, each time has progressively gotten worse, to the point where i will no longer be making the special trip, to this specific coffee shop. Only two employees out of everyone there cares about what they are doing and making for the customers. The coffee shop couldn't be less busy, at the times when i come in and get a drink, for them to treat me like they are in a hurry and forget a basic detail of my drink, just about every time, blows me away. Most of the employees act as if they have never heard of frappe/frapicheno, when you request on they look at you stupid. So i decided i would listen and learn what other were calling my style of drink, later learning that they prefer for you to call it a frozen latte. But, here's the catch, they still dont make the drink correctly. FLAVORS OFF THE CHART, but when you ask for a frozen latte and they forget to blend it, you basically handed me an iced coffee which is not what i ordered. So, you ask for it to be a blended drink and they attempt to fix it. (Every time) Then hand you an even more watered down iced latte at this point. When you express you are unhappy they get upset and sassy, passing judgement because you are unhappy with their rushed production. Unacceptable. When they do manage to put it in the blender they dont use enough ice and end up giving you a cup full of liquids again. . . Slow down, listen to your customers requests, and dont pass judgement from behind the counter. . . Will not...

We were visiting Midland for a niece's graduation. We visited Live Oak Twice during our stay. They have a large selection of coffees that they roast themselves. Unlike a major chain, their coffee doesn't taste like burnt beans. The coffee had a nice flavor, with a strong finish that isn't bitter. Their syrups are also made in house. For the ones we tried, they were delicious. Not sugary sweet, so you can actually decern the various flavors.
There was a board with the staff's choices, one being a Cinnamon and Brown Sugar, my partner enjoyed it and it was fantastic when she let me try it. I had both the Caramel Latte and Macchiato. I was pleased with both.
Even though we didn't get any, they had a good selection of Gluten Free options. The food is also made in house, meaning that they make these gluten free options on their own. Unlike many other chains and local shops that don't have any Gluten Free options, even if they are resold versions of major brands. That shows a care for those in the community that either for medical reasons or by choice eat Gluten Free.
The environment in the shop is warm and inviting. Whether you are having a conversation with friends, reading a book, or trying to work on your laptop you'll find an area for you.
The staff was friendlier than what I expect from a coffee shop. Usually they will great you, but they're more about getting your order and moving on to the next customer. The staff here would answer questions and where informative. Surprisingly, many of them were knowledgeable not only about the coffee, but the business itself.
Do not sleep on Live Oak Coffee....
