My husband and I travelled to Midway for a getaway to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. After hearing good things about this restaurant, we were excited to try it. Sadly, we were very disappointed. The service was the worst I have ever had, especially considering the price ($150 with tip). Our waiter was not kind or inviting, and his demeanor was off putting. We felt as if we were inconveniencing him. He never asked how we were doing after we were seated. After our meal was over, he dropped our check on the table as he walked by and didn’t say anything. When he gave us our credit card back and our receipt he put it on the table and walked away without saying anything again. Not even “thanks for coming in, have a good night”. He didn’t check on us to see how our food was throughout the meal. I have never had so much silence from a waiter. The hostess was kind and wished us a happy anniversary at least. The table next to us was composed of middle aged people and he was super cheerful and chatty with them, and checked on them way more often. It felt as if he didn’t treat us the same way as them because of our age, despite the fact that we were polite and spending a significant amount of money on a meal. As for the food, it was okay. I enjoyed my halibut well enough. I’m a big dessert person, and the strawberry rhubarb crumble was lackluster. It was so hot that the ice cream completely melted within three minutes, leaving me with a mushy soupy dessert. The cheese fondue was nothing special. Finally, the booth we were sat in wasn’t the greatest. There was a bit of sauce on the wall, which wasn’t super appetizing. I wish we were sat in a cozier area of the restaurant. Overall, I was excited to celebrate our occasion, but left with a very sour taste because of the...
Read moreMy wife, two girls (7 and 5) and I had dinner here last night. We were excited to try something new and, based on the mostly good reviews, chose to dine here. We knew it was going to be expensive, but thought the quality of the food would justify it. Sadly, it did not. The ambiance is great, wait staff friendly and attentive, but the food vs the cost, didn't match up. My daughter's liked their pizza and salmon off the kids menu, but our entrees were not nearly as good as what we anticipated. My wife ordered the halibut ($36), which was prepared well, but the yellow curry it was bathed in, was too overpowering and didn't compliment the fish. I had the filet mignon ($43) and the steak itself was cooked well, but lacked flavor. I think they try to make up for the lack of flavor in the filet by drenching it in mushroom sauce, which I wasn't expecting. I knew it was going to have sauce on it, but not that much, because why slather a high quality cut of steak in to much sauce? Next to filet sat pickled greens, which was an odd pairing, but not nearly as off-putting as the bbq baked beans. You heard that right, BBQ baked beans sharing a plate with a filet mignon.
Our total for dinner, with tip was $181. I would have thought $90, with tip, was too much for this dinner. In my opinion, if you're going to charge fine dining prices, the food has to match the expense. I only wish I would've listened to my wife and drove, not far, to Park City for a true, fine dining experience, where we leave with, a lighter wallet yes, but more importantly, an unforgettable experience.
My apologies to Midway Mercantile for being so critical, but I think you have a lot of potential, and unless you hear otherwise, things won't change and your hope for repeat business will not...

Here's our experience in a nutshell: Reservation for 7 pm, Seated at 7:30 pm, Entree served at 9 pm, and the food was not good.
The beet dip appetizer was the best item we ordered, the Caesar salad was okay. I had lambchops as my entree. They were salty, and the fried brussel sprouts were raw and hard to bite.
Two guests at our table ordered the Idaho trout. Not only were the 2 plates not served at the same time, but one trout was luke warm, the other one hot. They lacked any seasoning. One trout came with potato cubes that were raw, the other one with a bunch of mushy bacon and no potatoes.
That's not the quality of food I'd expect when I pay more than $60 a person.
Here's my recommendation for the owner: Instead of having guests, who had a reservation, wait for half an hour at the door and stare at their empty table or even sending them for a walk, seat them at the table, sell them a bottle of wine or cocktails, serve bread and butter and a ready-made appetizer before the kitchen is ready to prepare hot food. You'd make an easy $50 to $100 extra at that table, and don't have angry guests argue with your greeter.
You have to get your kitchen under control! I know you are short staffed, but no one wants to wait 45 min for the appetizer and another 45 min for the main dish. Limit the number of reservations you accept. Maybe hire a consultant to set up systems so you kitchen can prepare the food in a timely manner.
All the "farm to table" talk does not help if the food is not good. There's a major issue with consistency and with seasoning.
I wish you all the best, but after spending more than $400 on 3 visits I will...
