Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Mifflin Township

Stopped by for an Italian ice and gelati with my family today and I have no idea what was going on. This Rita's is typically never this bad!! The very long line was moving as slow as molasses... and I realized why when I got up to order: The store was staffed by only 2 workers who seemed hurried and frenetic taking/making orders. How can an ice cream shop of all places be so inadequately staffed on a Saturday in late May?!! So irresponsible by management. I felt awful for the very kind cashier who was in way over her head with just 1 other worker supporting her. Ugh.

Also the gelati we ordered was supposed to be 1 layer of watermelon ice and 1 layer of peach ice and it was some kind of bizarre blended mix of both Italian ice flavors. Still tasted okay, but very strange. The gelati was also missing the bottom layer...

We drove up from Lithopolis to introduce our 4 kids to Rita's. On the way there the kids looked over the menu and were surprised at the combination of flavors, as well as, mixtures of ices, creams, and custards all intertwined. The excitement was short lived when we arrived and nearly everything they had chosen either wasn't in stock or wasn't carried at this location. For the most part everything we settled on was good. The only thing is, if you get a concrete mixer, don't expect DQ Blizzard or even a milk shake left in the sun for an hour. Expect very cold, lumpy flavored milk. the kindest people. I haven't personally ate here but I delivered doordash orders from customers that ordered here. The staff really took me back because the line was long and was practically around the building and they still took the time to be personable with each customer, had a smile on their face, while still giving surprisingly fast service and every customer I saw was happy. not only that but I didn't realize there was a separate window I could have gone to for the doordash orders, but the gentleman here pulled me aside and told me to just come out to the other window and skip the line and was laughing and making jokes with me the entire time. truly such an amazing experience any...
