Title: A Disappointing Experience at Tora Restaurant: Subpar Food, Nonexistent Service, and Overpriced

My recent visit to Tora Restaurant left me utterly disappointed. The food was subpar and took an unreasonably long time to arrive. The chefs spends more time chatting and joking with each other than preparing the orders. The overall experience was marred by nonexistent service and a price tag that simply did not justify the quality of the food and service.

Firstly, the food at Tora Restaurant was far from satisfactory. The dishes lacked flavor, were poorly executed, and failed to meet even the most basic expectations. It was evident that little effort was put into ensuring the quality and taste of the dishes. Additionally, the wait time for the food was excessive, leaving me and other patrons frustrated and hungry. Waiting excessively for subpar food only added to the disappointment of the overall dining experience.

Moreover, the service at Tora Restaurant was practically nonexistent. The staff seemed disinterested and inattentive, paying little attention to customer needs or requests. It was nearly impossible to get the attention of a server when assistance was required. This lack of attentiveness and disregard for customer satisfaction is simply unacceptable for a restaurant that charges premium prices.

Speaking of prices, Tora Restaurant is grossly overpriced for the quality of food and service provided. The exorbitant prices simply do not match the underwhelming dining experience. Paying such a high price for subpar food and nonexistent service is unjustifiable and leaves customers feeling cheated.

My experience at Tora Restaurant was underwhelming and disappointing. The subpar food, nonexistent service, and exorbitant prices make it a dining establishment that I cannot recommend. I urge potential diners to seek out other restaurants in the area that offer better quality food, attentive service, and...

We used to be regular customers of this place, until we were denied seating for some unknown reason. We walked in the door, saw that there were AT LEAST three empty tables, and were promptly informed that there would be at least a twenty minute wait. There were no other guests waiting to be seated, or any other people in the lobby/waiting area at all, so we were quite surprised that we would be denied a seat. That's okay, because the woman that seems to run the place is usually very rude and doesn't act like a person that should be in a customer oriented business. I have had her be short and dismissive toward me before, and she is openly rude with her staff. Save your time and money, there are comparable sushi options elsewhere in Columbus. We went to Mr. Sushi after being turned away here, and were pleasantly surprised. Maybe not quite as good(but still tasty) only faster and much better prices. Oh, and no rudeness!

I have an email in to the restaurant, and will post it below, along with any reply I may receive. The letter is as follows:

My girlfriend and I have been coming to your restaurant for a few years now. We enjoy your food very much, and usually spend around $75 every time we come. This may not happen ever again after we were turned down for seating, while we could clearly see three completely empty tables. Why would you treat any customer in this manner?

!!EDIT!! One week later, and no response from anyone at the restaurant. I am not really surprised, but very disappointed. Do you mean to tell me that you can't take a minute to answer an email from a customer, if only to clear up what very well could have been a miscommunication or???? It only goes to show that customers take a back seat(if they can even get a seat) to the profits of the owner. Take your money elsewhere, there are plenty of friendly restaurant owners that are happy to have you...

Went here on a Sunday around 6, we were asked if we had reservations, and we did not. We were told to wait 45 minutes, I think, to discourage us from staying. I'm not sure why, I would hate to think they only want white people in there as that is all that was in there. The place had 6 empty tables and stayed empty until after we left. They were not reserved from what I could tell. They sat us after 15 minutes as tables continued to be empty. The waiter was very nice and attentive. The Japanese woman who was walking around looked miserable. Then the food started to come. Ordered the Chino sampler. All the fried stuff was super well done. Everything was dry and rubbery.. The seafood pancake was burned. We ate it and did not complain. Then the meals came. Sushi rolls were good but not great. The steak was dry and tasteless, ordered medium well...it was super well done. We also ordered a fish which was so burned it could not be eaten. Tried to get the burned parts off, but it was impossible to eat. The waiter took it back, and we did not get anything else, as we were told it would take 45 minutes to get anything else. The correct thing would have been to expedite our order since they burned the food and had the audacity to serve it. Who goes to restaurants to eat burned food. I'm surprise the sushi wasn't burned. I would not recommend this restaurant, and I would...

We have sushi for our anniversary every year and have been looking for an alternative to Akai Hana since their sushi prices continue to climb. And Tora was great! Sushi rice was nice and firm, sashimi all tasted great, and the tempura was all well done. The basic rolls we ordered had 6 pieces not 8 like you often see while the special rolls were 8 pieces. I often judge nice sushi places by their amaebi, uni, and hotate and Tora definitely passes. They all had a good ocean flavor, not too watery or soft either. Would definitely go again. Went on a Sunday at 5:30 and it wasn't too busy. (Also another benefit to Akai Hana where a reservation is almost required). Is it as good as Akai Hana? Honestly no, but my sashimi plate was $32 not $47 and none of their special rolls are over $20 while most of Akai Hanas are, and Akai Hana isn't 50% better. So Tora was really good and I would go again.

Tora you are so kind to my wife and I. You have impeccable service, your food is exquisite and I love that you customize your sushi rolls, entrees or stone pots. My go to for the Sushi is Island Roll, Ohio Roll, Humphrey, Yellowtail and Eel Roll. For if you want a lot of food and a delicious dinner and perhaps some for later I recommend any of the Stone Pots. I highly recommend the Tora and I believe the Tarranto White Sauce, add a fried egg on top to your meat either: chicken, bulgogi beef, steak or just the rice and veggies with Teriyaki sauce. Side note it is hot and does take longer but it is cooked in a stone pot with as the rice is cooking the flavor really starts to caramelize the rice. We go here frequently and love it. Never a bad meal yet. If you want something unique then I recommend having Peter or the Sushi Chef's prepare a custom sushi roll.

This place has a pretty attractive menu loaded with interesting sushi/appetizer options and other Japanese/Asian dishes. Thumbs up from the start -- they have most local sushi spots beat on menu quality. I was surprised by how attractive the dining room was too; this can double up as a casual or date night spot. Their crab cake roll might be one of the most unique rolls I've ever had and the name is definitely fitting -- the flavors were there and I loved it! I typically judge the quality of a sushi place by their rainbow roll. I'd give the one here a 7.5/10. The Area 51 roll was amazing and it just might knock you out! All-around, very satisfying sushi with some rolls being 10-piece rolls. Dollar for dollar, I have to say Tora is one of the best sushi spots in Columbus. It's not pricey at all for what you get. Zero complaints and all smiles here!
