The Pros: The 2 of us were greated upon arrival and sat instantly at 5:45 on Thursday, as they were not very busy. Food was tasty as usual (romano crusted chicken, pot roast special, chicken tortilla soup (soup was $8.49 for a little cup). Our waiter tell us to have a good evening when we were leaving. But that is really the only good from our waiter.
Cons: we waited about 10 minutes for the waiter to come to the table. Not really a big deal, but there were not very many customers in there that appear to be his tables, so maybe he was in the restroom or something?. Again not really a big deal, but no apology from him or anything when he got to the table. His name was Ernie D. I thought he said Ernesto was his name. He talks kind of soft and mumbles, so he was very difficult to hear as he went through the specials. I already knew what I wanted, but my husband did end up choosing the special of the night entree as well as the soup of the day. As we sat waiting on our food, we realized we didn't have any rolls, and I had an empty iced tea glass for a while. Finally he comes up to tend to the table behind us by giving the gentleman his check, and he walked by and looked at us and started to walk away. So I called him back over and asked him for a refill, also asked him about the dinner rolls. No apologies again whatsoever for forgetting to bring us the dinner rolls or for walking away with empty glass on the table. But he does say I'll get you some rolls if you want some... or something along those lines. While we were waiting, a lady brought us our meals. She was very friendly and our meals are correct. He eventually shows up with the dinner rolls as we are eating our entrees. I asked him for butter and he refuses to bring any. I've never had an issue getting butter before. The table next to us had a different waiter, and had no issue getting butter. Our waiter just didn't want to bring it! And he still had to go get my tea. But he did bring it back and asked if the food tasted okay. Proceed to the point to where we are now with one person done eating and the other person having just a little bit left, and still a a couple dinner rolls in the basket, because the butter didn't arrive, and the other rolls we ate did not taste good without it, he comes over to ask us if we want dessert. We of course tell him no and he says I'll bring you your check. Note that both of our glasses are completely empty. We wait to see if he's going to offer to refill them, and he does not! So as he proceeds to leave, we have to say we would like refills of our water and our iced tea. So twice failing to refill drinks without us demanding it, failing to bring us any rolls until we tell him we want them and after our food comes, and then refusing to bring his butter, is not my idea of a good waiter. If I was the one paying the bill his tip would have been cut in half. But because they bring out a machine and you do it sitting there in front of him, my husband didn't cut it that short, but he did cut them but I think 18% or whatever the smallest was on the machine. I usually Tip 25%, but this gentleman didn't deserve it. Now he didn't deserve zero because he did do some service okay, but management needs to work with him or just get rid of him. He does not know how to properly wait a table. Our bill for the two entrees typed above and the cup of soup, and an iced tea with $65 before tip. If you want somebody to come in and tip $15-$20 on this bill, then you need wait staff that can properly do their job. We were very pleasant with him, but I will refer to this review if we ever come back to this location again, and make sure we specifically request that we do not...
Read moreI have posted a lot of carry out Carrot Cake photos, LOL.
There is no denying that constant item in our visits. We have left other restaurants to come here for this slice. Absolutely a top 5 dessert in Columbus for us.
CCD is a nice unassuming spot. Throw away your thoughts of a standard diner. A nice spread of tables line the fenced sidewalk patio. Yes the view is only a parking lot, although salad and cool beverage outside, is enough for any summer day. A heavy shiny door opens to a hostess station overlooking raised and sunken dining floors. The bar to your right, is separated from the waiting area by stand-up bar tables. These are nice to rest your cocktails on, while waiting in conversation groups, for your table to be ready. This is a good time to mention that you should make a reservation here. Standard holidays and weekends are very busy.
Service has been average. Some stellar, fully attentive, and anticipating. Others were order, drop food, drop check. Uniform of the day is dark pants, white shirt, tie, and long apron(*see bottom). Classy enough to come here for special occasions. The decor is simple, yet elegant. Restrooms were very clean and adorned with accessories like a restroom attendant would provide.
A good menu of comfort food done with a flair, twist and elegance. I've dined on something from at least one section of the menu at least once. I have never sent food back for bad taste or incorrect. Only because it was warm, not hot. Be aware that sliced meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy were prepared before you arrived. If not kept at a hot temperature, you can expect your food to be tepid.
Great drinks from the bar. Nice volume with a well portioned mix. Friendly but harried bar staff. They work their bar customers, walk-up waiting customers, carry-out orders, and bar service window of distracting servers.
*Note to servers I do not care to handle your guest check book that has been stuffed down the back of your pants all night. If it was acceptable, I would expect you to also carry rolled up silverware settings there as well. The hostess doesn't show us to the table with our menus stuffed into her skirt. It's just...
Read moreI don't normally like to write bad reviews, because I can be an understanding person in most situations......... But my Valentine’s date dinner wasn’t that great :( I had dinner reservations for 2/14 so I was pretty excited to have my partner try this place. It took us 15 minutes to get our drinks (we ordered the special Cupid martini cocktail or something rather). We ordered it when our waitress first came by our table, but didn't get it until I inquired about the drinks which was about 5 minutes after we put our food order in. The waitress apologized a few times, but to my understanding the waiters and waitresses went up to the bar to put drink orders in and would wait for them to be made which would maybe take 30 seconds or so? I watched several orders go in and out (I just happened to be facing in the direction of the bar), I think she was really busy given it was Valentine's Day. Now on to the food........ My Reuben sandwich was amazing, it was pretty good. After we were done eating we decided to get the warm banana pudding, which was also delicious.... Until I found myself eating a raw onion a few bites in. I never had warm banana pudding bread so I asked if raw onions was normal, assuming they probably weren’t but didn’t want to assume...... She said no then apologized. I asked if the onions were close to the walnuts or something because there were walnuts on top in the whipped cream and said something along the lines of it’s a possibility. The overall experience was a bummer, especially since it was Valentine’s Day. The waitress was nice --- we were very patient and understanding and maybe that’s how some people end up with the short end of the stick, by being nice and patient as opposed to the rude and belligerent ones. We spent good money for good food and service so it was disappointing when nothing was offered to help compensate for the experience we had. Not that I expected to receive anything, but the offer would’ve at...
