So, Hope everyone had a really nice Valentine's Day. Daisy and I took the holiday opportunity to try a new place. So the following is our experience at, of all places for Valentine's day, The Waterwheel Cafe. :) TWC had a special menu set up just for the evening, and it was a set price for a 4 course meal...I've included a copy of the menu for the evening. Daisy started out with the Potato Tart, while she not a fan of potato....heck this could take forever....Let me just give you the highlights since I tasted everything myself.:) Ok Appetizers, The Potato Tart...Crust was fantastic, razor thin potatoes (sauteed maybe) perfectly cooked, Gratin-ed with, what else? Gruyere cheese and topped with razor thin scallions, all sitting atop a type of sour cream or maybe Neufchatel.....the tastes? crunchy, crispy, creamy, and understated yet elegant. Loved it. The Foie Gras was more a of mousse than Pate, but was stunningly tastey and luxurious. OMG, I could have eaten that ALONE. The Mushroom Bisque was hands down THE BEST I've ever had. I'm still wondering how they put together the taste of sautted mushrooms and fresh mushrooms together, it was SO satisfying. The Baby Arugla salad was such a great combo, some serious thought was behind this menu.. OH, and since my Daisy is allergic to walnuts, (we didnt notice this at first) they didn't bat an eye about getting her a replacement salad sans nuts. Since Daisy had NEVER had roasted beets, she was pleasantly surprised at how tasty this salad was. Main dishes? Not on the menu, this is how the owner described it on a recent post: " we are offering Fresh Eggplant filled Ravioli with a Shallot, Plum Tomato, White Wine Sauce with Fresh Basil & Shaved Parmesan." Folks, this was SOME DISH...and absolutely as delicious and perfectly cooked as it sounds. The Duck...O M G....almost as good as my past Christmas duck...what can you say? it's Duck! LOL and it was perfectly cooked! Crispy, meaty, full-flavored, like uber kicked up best roasted chicken ever! ....and then came dessert ...OH MY! One of the best strawberry, eating a creamy cloud...holy moley. Yeah, it was deelicious. And the flourless chocolate cake? Think last meal giant chocolate truffle...so. just Wow! Daisy's eyes actually rolled back in her head upon tasting this dessert! I'm pretty sure she was incoherent for about 30 seconds. When she regained composure...she said...THAT is THE BEST dessert i Have EVER HAD! and the decor...I'm sure most of you have been there...understaded country elegance, modest lighting and absolutely fantastic service. Honestly one of the best Valentines day dinners Daisy and I have ever had together. Before leaving, We were already planning our next visit there. So satisfied with our choice this year. Thanks to everyone at The...

Went for breakfast. It was so good, we went back for dinner. All I can say is "PERFECT"! From the service right down to the food...it was a piece of heaven on earth! 1st, the breakfast was DELISH!! Didn't take any pics of breakfast because we were starving and didn't think it was going to be as good as it was. And to top it off, we had tequila sunrise with it and it was DELISH! They were not cheap with the liquor nor the quality! AND dare I say the price was perfect!!

Went back for lunch after sightseeing and we couldn't have made a better choice! The food was divine! I think God, himself made my steak! SERIOUSLY 😳! I ordered my steak well done. Wanted to see how it would turn out...well, the well done steak was as moist as a petal with dew. The flavor was something you'd expect from an upscale $100 steak! I mean...this place is a true GEM! Our waiter, well, he served us for breakfast and lunch (can't remember his name) but this guy was THE BEST! Talk about fast, efficient, gave everything we needed or requested with a happy tone and a smile. Kept us updated and checked on us periodically (just the right amount. I despise when noone checks or if they check too much to where we're trying to answer with food in our mouths). He didn't rush us nor gave us a check without asking if we wanted a dessert from their divine menu along with coffee or a drink. This place really os heaven! I swear, the locals have ot good with this place in their backyard! If anyone is in the Milford area, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give this place a visit. It's great!! ❤ when we go back, we'll be...

Horrible service; great food. I don't think they like tourists and/or young people here. Our server was annoyed we didn't know if we wanted to sit inside or outside.

She came to the table exactly 3 times: One: to ask our drink order Two: Bring waters, get food/beer/wine order Three: Drop off the food. She put my wife's plate in the middle of the table and left without saying a word

She did not check back on us at all thru the lunch. She did not come back when we were done eating. My beer sat empty, and I would've ordered another one (and dessert) if she had come by. And its not like the place was full. It was lunch time on a Wed and maybe 5 tables.

I normally tip 15-20%, but this dark haired old lady got 8%. But she might not be bright enough to figure out why she only got that much.

My wife claims it was the best veggie burger she's had, and the apples as a side were a nice touch. No draft beer, but good selection of national beers. The reuben was dripping with juices (this is a good thing) with lots of cheese on light rye (well-buttered) with a side of purple rice/onion.

We really liked the food, but would never return due to the...

Absolutely charming riverside cafe with great food, worth a few hours’ trip to explore the quaint town. Check out the historic water wheel at the back of the restaurant and the rustic shops in the neighborhood. Order the croissant creme brûlée French toast if it’s offered as a special, but split it among 2-4 people as it’s too cloying otherwise. I normally dislike French toast but this one just hit different. The croissant soaked up the custard like a sponge, while the edges crisped up nicely. It’s a bread pudding, really. The plain croissant off the pastry shelf wasn’t that good, though, as it tasted more like bread than a flaky pastry. The smoked salmon is a recommend. It’s a very light meal on its own, though, so you might need to order a pastry or side.
