This place looks like it's been here forever! And apparently it has been, off and on.
Carini is a small place, seating maybe 25 patrons. Decor is sparse and simplistic with a few watercolor paintings decorating the walls.
I remember walking in about 10 years ago or so and the center of the food walking through the air made me think, now this is going to taste good!
Little did I know I would not get back again because of life and other issues for another 10 years.
For my family it was definitely worth the wait. They didn't break the cardinal rule of chicken wings, NOT BAKED! but FRIED their wings. The Buffalo wings sauce taste was accurate but as I chose "Hot" ( between hot and mild available) I was pleasantly surprised to find the about a perfect medium; saucy, crispy, chewy and fantastic! Probably the best wings to date in the area.
For starters we had the fried zucchini, french fries, fried mozzarella and chicken roll. If fried zucchini, French fries and fried mozzarella were as to be expected, hot and crispy... definitely acceptable if not unusually hot.....thats a good thing.
The Chicken roll was very lightly seasoned chicken (if at all) but the real story of that dish was the crust, or the dough. Soft and chewy and everything you expected from a pizza crust. A little more salt and some Italian seasoning would probably do that wonders. For what it was it was definitely large enough and acceptable.
We ordered the plain pie, the New Yorker, and the bruschetta pie. Not being a fan myself of a New York style pie, (and full disclosure) Pizza in general, I wasn't crazy about the by itself, but my family seem to like it. The bruschetta pizza however, was a different story; with an ultra thin crispy crust, it was absolutely fantastic!
Our server Lexie was sweet, professional and attentive; really couldn't ask for more.
They have various flavors of gelato available, and we definitely tried the tiramisu, which even after stuffing ourselves, was...
Read moreThis is our first time ordering from this pizzeria. We ordered because it says NEW YORK style eighteen inch pizza. We looked at the menu and noticed that there menu isn't extensiv As other restaurants are with pastas and chickens and meat, so we assume that they focused their attention on pizza and it would be very good.. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. My whole life Williamsburg, Brooklyn to be exact and so was my husband. We don't know what part of New York style pizza they were aiming for but this did not hit the mark. The pizza was extremely thin bordering on a Grandma style pizza. I don't know if we were given a leftover or Day old pizza but it was very hard and stiff when it arrived. I will be honest, I'm not a person that likes to give out bad reviews, but sometimes it needs to be said because I will always give someplace the benefit of the doubt that maybe there was a stand in pizza maker or there or they were extremely busy. I do hope it was one of the 2 because we would really like to try this place again And like it. There aren't many good pizza restaurants in town. I am not a big fan of pizza but my husband is and he could eat pizza 7 days a week. If it was allowed in our home. I will say we both agreed that the sauce was tasty. The cheese was good and it seemed fresh. It was cooked well as far as the bottom not being burned, which I could understand that would be the reason for it being so hard. There really was no reason that we could...
Read moreI honestly to god forgot that pizza could be this good.
When I first saw the pizzas, they looked a little cool in the glass case, like they had been sitting out for a good minute, and I was doubtful. But my nose...the gentle smell of fresh crust I was getting made me take a chance.
I got the Eggplant Parm pizza (thin strips of chewy eggplant parm and dollops of ricotta)...and it was delicious. A thin, chewy crust with a gentle crunch, the alternating flavors of salty parm and creamy ricotta...I remember sitting there for a moment, just suddenly so happy I walked in.
I started on my second slice. This one looked mildly terrifying, thickly covered in pink vodka sauce with very little discernable cheese and liberally dotted with small circles of pepperoni.
Oh.
I swear the flavors exploded in my mouth. A little kick from the pepperonis, but it was so good. Same beautiful chewy crust. The vodka sauce was so sunlime I didn't miss the cheese a bit.
I walked in exasperated, exhausted, and with my head absolutely spinning. I walked out feeling like I'd found a beautiful...
