I ate there twice now and will return but the 3 stars is for my last visit.
First visit was at 4:00 in the afternoon, after lunch and before dinner. This turned out to be good as we were the only patrons in the restaurant side and the cook had to make the plate fresh. Being a Texan I lower my expectations for Mexican food here. I ordered $22 plate with a Chili Relleno, Carne Asada, cheese enchilada, chicken taquito, avocado/pico de gallo relish (yummy), beans and rice. My beautiful wife played it safe and ordered a chicken quesadilla (presented in a unique but delicious manner).
My carne asada was pure heaven. Thin slices of seasoned skirt steak and warm flour tortillas. The cheese enchilada was a hit. There was a Rojo sauce that was reminiscent chili con Carney. I was planning on getting a whole plate of on my next visit. The chili relleno was good but by the I got to it the cheese was cold but it had good flavor.
The real exciting part of our meal was the chips and salsa. The salsa was very good and chips were ok. This is the only place where we found the salsa to be edible. I can bring my Texas friends here for chips and salsa and cold beer anytime.
The heart breaking second visit. Our visit was during lunchtime. We were asked to be lackluster service staff and a hurried kitchen. I found that the enchiladas that came with the combo dinner last time or not offered as a meal. I ordered the same combo as my first visit. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I started with the chili relleno and found it to be tasty but cold and the cheese congealed so no good. Cheese enchilada was added to the plate with dried up sauce not reminiscent of my first encounter. The carne asada was good and turned out to be the only main item on the plate that was edible.
I think the trick here is to go during a non-busy time. Making the plates fresh seems to be the way to go. I will return one more time to check my hypothesis and...
Read moreAs an Angeleno, I find it extremely difficult to come across good mexican food outside of my city. This place is nowhere near great mexican food, good if you like tex-mex, nothing close to real street food as mexican food should be. On the other side, their queso is BOMB, sadly, I went back and did a pick up order or just a side of queso and i thought the container was smaller than what i was served when i say down to eat. Come to find out, out of curiosity, I weighed my queso and it was only 6oz. It's a matter of principle to serve what it is being sold, so I felt cheated. I gave them a call and advise them to tell the kitchen to either measure it or get it right. Charge for more if needed, but dont cheat out the client. I was offered a top off but I was already at home, I dont want to drive again for something I already drove and paid for. I will keep coming back for the queso, just will expect at least the amount promised next time. Because the queso, is worth...

I ordered here, to go, and they served stale chips and CURDLED SOUR CREAM. I called to inform the Manager and he not only got belligerent, but was not empathetic, and he was very combative. I informed him of the great inconvenience, not only because we didn’t live nearby, but also because the quality issue was detrimental to our health. I mean how low do the health and sanitation practices have to be, to serve sour cream that curdled? I am UPLOADING A PICTURE, the same picture that I showed the Manager. He didn’t seem shocked about the picture. I told him that I would NEVER EAT THERE again, to which he suggested that I never eat there again... maybe to save face in front of customers; I don’t know. It was actually kind of hilarious. I don’t mind him being unprofessional and skeezy, but putting my family in jeopardy is where I draw the line. BE CAREFUL if you do decide...
