As an avid connoisseur of chicken cuisine, I can confidently say that Big Chicken is a 100% win for not only Shaquille O'Neal but the entire city of Mukilteo. For a grand opening, this restaurant was extremely well-managed and punctual. Coming into the restaurant the line wrapped around from the register to the door but it was a mere 5 minute wait to get the chance to order. Our server Sarah was very kind and patient and we were able to get our food within 5 minutes after ordering as well. It came out to about $66 for a hungry party of 3, and this was including 2 milkshakes which if we didn't get could've brought our price down to $54 for 5 servings of food, dividing down to an average price of $10.80 each.
A few things to note about the store for first-timers: There is no drive-thru. Sauces are all available next to the soda machine to take at one's discretion. There are no meal combinations (e.g. the McDonald's / Burger King system of the burger + fries + drink combo) however there is a variety of fries and drinks you may order separately. A kid's meal is available on the menu.
To start, this restaurant certainly lives up to its name when regarding the amount of Popcorn Chicken we got in the 'Bigger' serving size. Each piece of chicken was about the same size as one Chick-fil-A® Nugget, and the experience of eating it was not dissimilar. A notable difference however, is that Big Chicken's Popcorn Chicken have a much juicier and chewier meat which at first bite was a delightfully satisfying texture.
The 'Ultimate' Big & Sloppy Burger was definitely the highlight of my meal. A perfectly cooked crispy chicken patty combined with the Mac & Cheese inside was the collaboration I so desperately needed from a restaurant near me in Washington. The flavors are so well balanced that no component comes off as overly salty, and keeps you savoring bite after bite.
Lastly, I am very satisfied with the milkshakes provided at Big Chicken. I tried the Big Conductor (Salted Caramel) and Diesel (OREO Cookies & Cream) and both were marvelous. If I were to put it into one word: quality. You can truly taste the difference from these premium milkshakes compared to a cheaper alternative. I did prefer the Diesel, as I am a "sucker" for OREOs. It was the precise amount of sweetness and flavor that only few can pull off and that isn't even mentioning how smooth the consistency of the drink was.
My closing thoughts are that I'm sure this Mukilteo location will be a hit, the only downside to this will be the usage of the parking lot right outside the restaurant nearing the Rite Aid. This is a very solid chicken joint and if you're looking for quality you won't be disappointed. The only other contender to this restaurant I can put up would be Chick-fil-A® but if you're in the Mukilteo area Big Chicken is the closer option. It may be some time until I can personally make a final decision into where this restaurant fits into the hierarchy of nourriture amongst the Seattle metropolitan area but there's no doubt it is one of the major...
Read moreIt is kind of weird to go into a business and see nothing but black employees in a county/area that has less than 2% black population. For that to happen, it means hiring by race.
Now, with that mentioned, I have been in 3 times in the eve. The place is CLEAN. So few fast foods are actually clean these days. These guys are doing a great job. I have talked to the night manager and his employees a few times. Friendly as all get out. Even when working, you can hear laughing. When I was a kid working at McD and other fast foods in the 70s/80s, we laughed a lot and generally had a good time working. Now, I go into many places and there is no laughter, no banter, no smiles, and even an inability to understand what customers are saying. This place has hired decent ppl.
I am slowly trying their food. They have a new sauce that is similar to CFA's, only milder. Personally, I like it spicier, but it was still decent. The food was a bit slow coming out, but it was evening AND above all, all 3xs, it was FRESH AND HOT. I have not seen that often from fast food over the last 20 years. Impressive. They must have relatively short times on their fries to have that. And the several sandwiches that I have had were pretty decent.
You need COFFEE. Gads. Why are restaurants killing off a drink that is huge all over. Want to bring older ppl, along with moms/young kids to your places in AM, mid afternoons, evenings? Offer up coffee. I am guessing that it is Big C that is doing it, and not the store owner. But you can push them for it.
I need to try your beers (from africa; interesting). Stil, you might consider adding 1-2 LOCAL crafted beers. It might help bring in more ppl.
If I were the store owner, I would consider moving the night manager to his own store, and expand the hiring pool i.e. quit limiting it to just blacks; You need the best ppl that you can get not just the best blacks. In addition, if you hire local high schoolers, they will likely bring their friends there. This helps to increase sales...
Read moreSummary: Delicious unique chicken sandwiches, friendly staff, clean dining area and facilities, what more could you want! At $12-$14 a meal it's a bit on the pricey side, but you're getting (and some might call this sacrilege) a BETTER chicken sandwich than Chick-fil-A. Definitely worth a stop in!
Ambiance/service: The place is cozy, and brings the Shaq to it's interior! Wooden tables, warm color scheme, and chandeliers make it a nice place to dine in. There's a Shaq size footprint by the vending machines so you can see how you stack up. We had a large party, but the food was out quick, was organized, and the staff worked hard to meet all of our needs.
Food: Like I said in the summary, this was a better chicken sandwich than Chick-fil-A. The patty was freshly cooked, juicy, and extremely flavorful. I got the ultimate so it came with Mac n cheese on top, and it was delicious. Crinkle fries come with the meal, which aren't my favorite personally, but they were cooked well. Got the mango lemonade for the drink and it was much sweeter than I was anticipating, a little heavy on the...
