I would give no stars to this restaurant if it was an option. I went to this restaurant at 12:30 lunch time today on a Saturday. There were two people in my group for lunch. The waitress gives us water and plates as we sit. We decide on what we want. My lunch friend gets up to go outside and get something he left in the car. In reading online reviews it seems other people have had problems with the same waitress I had. So this is my experience.
Some items on their menu have a lunch time price and a higher dinner time price. I started to give the waitress my order. First, I wanted the lunch Galbi dish ($19.99). The waitress said I would be charged the dinner price of $31.99. I asked “Why? It is 12:30 lunch time.” She said on Saturdays they always charge the higher cost. There is no sign on the door, on the website or menu stating this is how they will charge you. Fine, I’ll choose something else.
I said I “Did Not” want it and looked for a different substitution. I was getting ready to tell her I wanted the seafood pancake while looking for another main dish and she walked away. I was in the middle of giving her my order and she just left.
She comes back asks me if I want galbi and I say No. I tell her I want the seafood pancake. I also want the sweet & mild chicken. She keeps asking me again if I want the galbi. Why does she keep pushing the higher price galbi on me!? She is an older woman and I had already said No multiple times. I said again in a louder voice in case she did not hear the other times, “No Galbi”. She takes my order and said I would get no sides. I asked her, “Why am I getting no sides (the complimentary banchan I always get when I order here)?” This is not the first time I have eaten at this place.
She turns around and says, I’m only ordering appetizers so I don’t get sides. I say to her, I am ordering a seafood pancake and chicken. I have always been given sides when I order chicken. At this point, I get up from the table to leave as there are many Korean restaurants 5 mins drive away I could go to in Milpitas. Another lady walks up to me and I tell her I am ordering chicken and the seafood appetizer. I have never been told I didn’t qualify for the complimentary sides in the past with that order. She points to the table indicating for me to sit down.
Was the first waitress mad at me because I didn’t order the higher price $31.99 galbi or what? I told the second lady I would write a review of my experience and eat at another Korean restaurant. I left and had excellent Korean food down the street. The customer service was great at the other place and I spent over $175. Why did I spend so much? Because I ordered multiple ToGo dishes for my friends which is what I had planned to do at Hansang Tofu today.
There are many great Korean restaurants in Milpitas and near north SJ. Don’t go to Hansang....
Read moreHansang tofu has quickly become my boyfriend and my favorite Korean spot. They are open later than other tofu houses and have a variety of foods to choose from. They are run by ahjummas so it's very homey and it feels like they are always trying to take care of you!
We've gotten the spicy cold noodle, fried chicken, tofu soups and the seafood pancake. The spicy cold noodle is not spicy at all and was so refreshing and nice on a hot summers day. It comes with one meat slice. The noodles were chewy, long and fun to eat. One bowl is enough for one person, but if you want more protein you'd have to order something else bc there's only one slice of meat.
The first time we went, we were not gonna get chicken wings, but we saw everyone else get it, so.... we got an order lol. We decided on the supreme flavor. It kind of tastes like the chinese dish, sweet and sour pork. But instead of pork, it's chicken. If you order the chicken but not wings, you will get other chopped pieces, such as the parts of breast, drum and thigh. They will all be different sizes.
The tofu soups here are very good. My bf has gotten the extra spicy and there are different flavor profiles per spicy level, which I also enjoyed. The spiciness is not overwhelming but will gradually build. I got mild and loved the flavor. The broth and spices they use are delicious
We've been on a hunt for a good seafood pancake spot and this is definitely it. Originally we weren't gonna order it since we've been let down too many times, but we're glad that we did. It has a nice crunch, seafood plentiful, and not too doughy! Perfect ratio. It has flavor without the sauce too, but the sauce compliments it well. My bf and I finished 2/3 of it!l before we left!! When we packed it, the ahjumma gave us extra seafood pancake sauce in our bag :) awesome customer service!
Don't get me started on their 9 plate banchan!! I haven't seen a place with that many before. They switch it up sometimes though so you might not get the same ones every time. You will mostly get typical kimchi, japchae, fish cake and potato, bean sprouts, broccoli, pickled cucumber (one of my faves). They switch up between tofu , radish, eggplant and the pickled seaweed (last two are my other favorites). All very delicious.
Thank you hamsang tofu for another yummy dinner. Will come back for more chicken...
Read moreCame here last weekend and have to say I'm really happy with the quality of food! Their service wasn't bad and could use some work but the ladies here are all very sweet and give you instructions on how to eat if you don't look Korean, which always find funny. It's a medium sized place with some bench seating and very chill/relaxed vibe.
Usually galbi tends to be on the sweet side and since I'm more low sugar the last few years, things tend to be even more sweet but their galbi was just a little sweet, which was great. It really allows you to taste the quality of the meat and get more of the smoky taste.
The banchan (side dishes) were also excellent and tend to judge Korean restaurants on the quality of variety of their banchan and they definitely had some great options. In all, they provide 8, with the sweet potatoes, spicy eggplant, and spicy bean sprouts being some of my favorites.
Also got the army stew, which they call hotpot here and man is it huge. They said it's good for 2-3 people but feel like it's got to be 3 really hungry people with this being the only thing you order!
I definitely want to come back and try their chicken wings as many other tables ordered them and it...
