This is the best place I can find for Chang Fen in the Bay Area. It as close as I can get to the Chang Fen I find in Guangzhou. The rice congee is also very good and I always get their Liwan version. I don't recommend the dim sums like the har gao (tapioca shrimp dumplings) because I can tell they are not handmade and most likely bought in from a supplier. It's too perfect and too consistent like those I find in supermarkets in the frozen section.
I was here with my parents and we were really judging the Chang Fen itself. My parents grew up in Guangzhou and they go back to visit very often. We have our favorite hole in the wall place we go to for chang fun and rice congee whenever we are in Guangzhou.
This place still fall short of that place in Guangzhou when it comes to taste. My parents found that the sauce here is too sweet. I found that the rice skin is too soggy and falls apart too easily the last time I went. The right rice skin needs to have the right amount of firmness, chewiness, and thickness. It's very difficult to get them right and most dim sum places fall even more short. There's also too much lettuce stuffing in place of the meat stuffing here. However, the meat stuffing is decent and tender to me.
I think the takeaway here is that this is a great place to satisfy cravings for Chang Fen. However, I believe the best and authentic Chang Fen experiences are still...
Read moreThis place popped up on my social media and since I love me some good rice rolls, knew I had to check it out. Arrived in the area around 12, but wasn't yet hungry so we went shopping next door. Coming out of the store around 1, there was a good amount of people waiting outside. We put our name down on the list and probably ended up waiting 15-20 minutes.
We were able to order via QR code which was nice. Here are the highlights that I would recommend:
• Marinated beef rice noodle roll • LiWan style assorted congee • Dough stick
The dim sum is okay, but I wouldn't necessarily order it unless you're really craving it.
I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any rice roll or congee. Definitely add the toppings for the congee. Overall a good experience and tasty food..
Parking is easy since there's a lot. They do get busy so be prepared to wait. You probably won't wait too long as items come...
Read moreTheir rice noodle rolls are really authentic. My favorite is the oyster and egg rice noodle rolls. The rest of the food are delicious and authentic as well. I will definitely go to their restaurant again when I come to San Francisco in the future. The most important thing is that the service attitude of the staffs is very good. I accidentally locked my car keys in the car. I was in a bad mood and didn’t know how to solve this problem. The manager happened to be in there that day. The waitress told the manager in Cantonese that my keys were locked in the car. The manager was very enthusiastic to call his insurance company and ask someone to open the car door. I was really touched. This restaurant not only has authentic and delicious rice noodle rolls, but the manager and waitresses are also super nice. They helped me solve a problem that I didn’t know how to solve. I am...
