Review: The Ultimate Hoagie Sandwich Experience
I recently had the pleasure of trying what can only be described as the best sandwich I've ever tasted—a magnificent hoagie that truly redefined my expectations.
The moment I laid eyes on the sandwich, I was impressed by the perfectly baked hoagie roll. Its golden crust was inviting, and it had just the right amount of give, promising a satisfying bite. As I took my first bite, the texture was immediately noticeable: the roll was soft yet sturdy enough to contain the delicious fillings without falling apart.
Inside, the star of the show was the pulled pork—smoky, tender, and bursting with flavor. Each shred melted in my mouth, showcasing the chef’s skill in slow-cooking it to perfection. Paired with slices of savory ham, the combination created a rich depth of flavor that was both comforting and indulgent.
The melted Swiss cheese added a creamy, nutty richness that beautifully complemented the meats. It oozed just enough to bind the sandwich together without overpowering the other components.
The tangy pickles were a delightful surprise, providing a refreshing crunch that balanced the richness of the pork and ham. Their acidity cut through the heaviness, adding a bright note that made each bite even more enjoyable.
What truly elevated this hoagie was the creamy horseradish sauce. Its zesty kick was perfectly measured—adding a layer of complexity that kept my taste buds engaged without overwhelming the other flavors. It was the kind of sauce that lingered just enough to keep you coming back for more.
To complete the meal, the sandwich was served alongside seasoned crispy shoelace fries. These fries were the ideal accompaniment—thin, perfectly fried, and seasoned with just the right amount of salt and spices. They provided a satisfying crunch with each bite and were perfect for dipping into any extra horseradish sauce.
Overall, this sandwich was a harmonious blend of textures and flavors that left me utterly satisfied. It was more than just a sandwich; it was a culinary experience that I won’t soon forget. If you’re a fan of great food, this sandwich is a must-try. I can’t wait to return for another round!

Read moreInitially I came here because I was told they had good cheese curds. I didn’t look at much of the menu before visiting so I was expecting standard bar food. After sitting down, reading their menu and hearing their Fat Tuesday specials I realized Camino might be a little different.
Their cheese curds are good. I couldn’t tell what the sauce was but it was a little sweet and cut some of the saltiness from the cheese curds. Eating the curds on their own were just a tad salty, but not unpleasant. Overall I thought they were great although I’m not a native to Wisconsin so don’t crucify me.
Both sandwiches that we ordered were also really good and also came out super quick . The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was crispy, fried to perfection and tossed in the traditional sauce you’d normally use. It was a good balance of between the cayenne, spices, and sugar. The pickles were good too! They taste like they make them in house.
More often than not I’ve had po’boys that feel disappointing or aren’t done well but everything from the fry of the shrimp to the remoulade was great. It was on a soft roll, but my one small gripe was that the sandwich fell apart within the first few bites. I think leaving the hinge more intact would have prevented that from happening.
The gumbo and Brussels sprouts sides were both good too. The gumbo was real hot so it took a while for it to cool down before we could enjoy it but (again) a small gripe and nothing that took away from the experience.
I like the atmosphere, and it had a good amount of people there on a Tuesday in the middle of the day. They had some New Orleans jazz playing for Fat Tuesday which added to the dining experience!
Definitely worth visiting. Sorry, Camino for not having more faith in you, but I can’t wait to be back! You guys do a great job and the prices...
Read moreCamino is simply fantastic. Whether it’s the summertime and I’m enjoying their back patio or 0 degrees and snow storming, it’s always a pleasant spot. I’ve been trying to patronize bi-weekly with the covid shutdowns and am eating through their menu. Let me say I haven’t had a dish I haven’t absolutely loved.
My side salad was their beet salad - loved the balance of the candied walnuts and the vinaigrette! I can see myself ordering this as a main at some point!
I love that they have vegetarian options as well! A few months back I took a friend from Chicago and tried the Brussels Sprout Grinder, really tasty! They have amazing Brussels as a side so I knew that the sandwich would be great as well. While it had great flavor, it was kind of bread heavy - I’d give it a 4/5 and is probably the dish I’ve been least stoked about. We also split a fried pickle appetizer and they were hot and crispy and soooo good with the Cajun remoulade.
After having such a good experience with the fried pickle appetizer, I tried their fried pickle po boy for pick up - just as amazing as the appetizer but somehow even better since it’s a hot sandwich. Crispy, crunchy, and a little kick from the remoulade!
I’ve also tried their Miltown Portobello and hot DANG that cheese sauce is amazing! Good balance of mushrooms and peppers + onions. If you’re on the fence, go for it.
Now I know it sounds like I eat here everyday but this is definitely a write up of visits over the last two years. What I’m saying is, Camino is an amazing spot for food and it’s a fantastic addition to the Walker’s point neighborhood. Eat here. You’ll be happy you did.
(Also their pierogis are out of this world. Go on Sunday, they’re...
