I realize that its a "Cigar Bar". However, there's things like fans and Negative Air Pressure. There was a thick fog of cigar smoke throughout the building. If you have breathing issues, don't go. We arrived early and thought that we'd try (try) to eat and have a drink before the tour. We did sit down for that drink and we were offered menus. My wife had a drink, I could not handle it. I could not imagine the idea of eating or drinking anything there, flavours of licking a dirty ashtray came to mind. I grew up with parents who both smoked, 3-3.5 packs a day. Lighting one with the dying embers of the last, all the way to the filters, the way GOD intended you to smoke em. I couldn't hack it, we left, ate and drank down the street and returned for the tour. The tour was interesting and the Tour Guide was entertaining. I can recommend that part. The tour of upstairs was my favourite part and kept my attention. Lots of things to see up there and plenty of video and picture opportunities. At the end we were asked to stay, I could not deal with the ground floor. Memories of Army Gas Chambers flooded my mind. I just asked for our t shirts (that I knew I'd have to wash repeatedly). We had gotten the Tour Package and I was looking at other T's to possibly get. Nothing was in our size. There was no T-Shirts above the size of XLG. I have a 50 inch chest, I can thank The Army and 32 years of push ups for that. When I asked the manager about it, he was pretty uninterested. I explained that we had paid for 2 T's that came along with the package. He said; "Oh, let me get your address and we will send them to you" as he puffed on his cigar. That (as of this writing 07 APR 25)- I waited a month to see what came of them and if they'd do what they said that they would do) never happened. I waited a month before writing this review. If they had done what they said that they would or offered me a refund for the shirt, I would have written a kinder review. I wasted 30.00 on the shirts and got ripped off.
Honestly, unless you are a heavy smoker or want to relive memories of your Chain Smoking Parent Memories and going to school wreaking of a ashtray-DONT GO. Take one of the other tours. One that will do what they say that they will. A shake of the hand and the exchange of money is a bond, you broke it. HARD PASS
As of 16 APR 25: No contact from or response from Hangman Tours. IF, I receive one, I will...
Read moreLast night Bill and I went on a ghost tour. We've been on many ghost tours on our travels. This one made us feel as if we traveled back to prohibition, speakeasy, and brothel time period. Our tour guide, Ciji, was mesmerizing to listen to. She had our complete attention. We started the tour outside this historic building. Walking down the alley, the description was spot on to be able to relive how it would feel back in the day. Getting to know the ghosts through stories..priceless. Four floors of magnificent beauty of yesteryear. My favorite is Elizabeth, little girl so many years ago who fell out of an apple tree who plays silly tricks on patrons who visit the ladies room. I don't scare easy, tough skin, but there is a portrait in this building that made me step backwards with a moment of fear. The stairwells are glorious. The decor alone is worth the visit. In Shaker's Bar the aroma of pizza, smelled mouth watering good. I saw a few orders going past me to awaiting guests I must say, they looked very tasty. Our only mistake was eating before the ghost tour. We most definitely will be going back very soon to taste. I love a good cigar. The staff was very knowledgeable of them. The bar has such a wide range of choices. To top it off, they also have outside seating..out front and a roof top bar. Last night was not just an outing but an adventure we will never forget. We strongly!!!!!! Recommend visiting Shaker's. Drink, eat, be drawn back to when the Capone Brothers once owned this historic building. One more note, Bob Weiss, we can't thank you enough. It was a pleasure and an honor meeting you. We absolutely fell in love with your place and staff....
Read moreDid the Cream City Cannibal Walking Tour. Met at Shakers, where you can use the restroom and grab a drink for the walk. Walked about 3-4 (?) blocks down, went back to Shakers where, again, you can use the facilities and refresh your drink. Then walked about 3-4 (?) blocks up. I guess the point was to walk the streets where Dahmer walked and stop in front of the bars he frequented, many of which have changed their names and/or they are not a bar anymore. MKE seems to put a lot of effort into burying the past and the non-glorification of this monster. Agreed. We are police/teacher, so our intent was to bring back the experience to our department and the classroom. Prior to the tour, we visited grandma's house, the empty lot where the Oxford Apartments were bulldozed down, and the Ambassador Hotel. We also went to La Cage and former Club 219 (now the Wall Street Stock Bar) the day before. Clearly Hangman Tours can't do all these things, so this walking tour was just that - a short walking tour. If you don't know much about the whole Dahmer story, it can be really interesting. Our tour guide was super nice. Shakers was a cool place with plenty of personality. They had good food, drinks, and nice staff. We thought the tour price of $40 was overpriced. Perhaps $20 would be a bit more appropriate for what you get. Our 2-star rating comes mainly from the imbalance of...
