This was my first visit to Skylight, I saw the play Evita. This review is more for the theater than the play (which was great).
The theater was smaller than I anticipated, looks like it holds about 300 people on 3 levels. I sat in the second level, where there are only 3 rows. The third level has 2 rows. I am a fairly big guy and the seats were plenty wide and a lot of leg room. I sat near an end of a row and could still see the stage great. The only problem at least on the second level is there are about 5 steps to the first row and no railing. There were a lot of older people at the show that had to be assisted getting down the stairs.
The sound in the theater was great. There was a small orchestra above the stage, the sound was clear and full. The singing from the performers was all plenty loud and clear.
Parking can be tricky in the third ward, we parked on the other side of the park at the end of Broadway with no trouble.
I very much enjoyed my trip to the Skylight Theater and...
Read moreUpdate - Went to see Frankenstein and was impressed AGAIN with the theatre and the performance. The Skylight Music Theatre should be on your "Must Stop" list of things to do. I have nothing bad to say about the whole experience. The people working the House (front and back) and the Performers really transport you to an amazing experience. The projection used in the performance was as impressive as the "curtains" painted on the walls around the house. Come here often and take the time to look around and appreciate the whole venue - you will be glad you did!
Enjoyed another great production at the Skylight Music Theatre. This time it was Newsies! From the friendly and helpful lobby staff to the top notch performers, this was a great show. If you can't make it to this particular show, be sure to check out the Skylight when you get a chance. The Theatre is beautiful and we have never been disappointed with a performance...
Read moreI attended a delightful performance of "School of Rock" on Thursday, December 28. The actors/musicians were above talented. Only one thing made the evening less than ideal. We were seated in the last row (still fantastic seats) and through the entire show, people were whispering loudly behind us. I'm not above giving an annoyed look. Imagine my surprise, and truly disgust, to see that it was the show's director and the ushers. Shame on you for detracting from the wonderful performance we were all there to see. You truly should have known better. Take your little chitchat out to the lobby. No one wants to be subjected to it. I will continue to attend and support Skylight, but I won't attend anything with which this unprofessional director...
