I know the original owner Johnny, which is why we decided to try this bar. Understandably the bar/restaurant was busy at prime time on a Friday night during COVID, and glad to see it was. Servers were friendly and were clearly working very hard during their Friday night fish fry. I have worked in the restaurant business for 26 years and approximately 19 of those years being a bartender/manager, and now work in Waukesha county (I am 40). We saw one table open (out of 4) at the far end of the restaurant. We walked towards the end of the bar (next to the kitchen) to ask the bartender if we could sit there or if we had to wait. She politely told us we could and also informed us that we had to wear masks to walk through the restaurant. I have no issues wearing a mask, I just didn’t have one. According to the owner he said we were offered, we were not, otherwise I would have gladly put one on. My fiancé does have a medical condition, as he is a 50 year old disabled veteran, and awaiting credentials from the VA. We understand the CDC guidelines as several of our friends are bar owners and know how strict the establishment has to be and all the paperwork the Milwaukee Health Department requires. We did not mean any disrespect. At that point we were only about 10 feet from the table, so I did not walk all the way back through the restaurant/bar area and to our vehicle to get my mask. (We did both already have the virus.)We sat at the far table a couple of feet from the patio exit, which only had seating for 2, we were expecting 1 more person. Our server came over and we informed her of that and she said we could move to the second table once the single gentleman was done with dinner. She was very busy outside on the patio running food for a bit, etc. when she got time, she asked us if we wanted drinks while we waited for that table. We did order drinks. She had asked the waitress at the next table over, waiting on a party of 8, to run our drinks to us when the service bar was done making them. This waitress was also busy so we waited about 15 min for our drinks , from the time we WALKED IN to the time we got them (not the time of the ticket order). There was NO wait and several open tables outside. Just clarifying this because the owner said else wise. We asked if it was ok to move outside since the single gentleman whose table we were going to take hadn’t received his food yet. Our third guest (in his mid-forties) arrived through the patio and did not walk through the restaurant. Our table heater wasn’t working, and we felt bad because we knew the servers were busy although they eventually did end up getting it lighted for us. Thank you! Another table next to a bigger heater opened up, so we moved there. Again no wait for tables. A group of three local law enforcement officers took our previous table and ordered food after we did. I would expect they get their meals first, and glad they did. It was nice to see them be able to enjoy a meal without interruption from a call. Fun fact, my fiancé and I are both retired police officers. As they were leaving, we thanked them for their service (we still did not have any food at this time). Our server was very attentive and said she had asked the kitchen where our food was. Some other tables also got their food before us. When our server advised us there were still 3 food tickets in front of us we asked if it was ok to cancel our order since we had someplace to be. We were not at all upset. We only left because we had plans. We tipped over 20% of the drink total and exited through the outside patio to the parking lot. Every establishment will get bad/mediocre reviews from time to time. Sometimes things happen that are out of servers/bartenders/cooks control. I know to a T how the restaurant business works, so I was not upset, just stating the facts in this review. I guess we are not welcome back, as the owner said he hoped we didn’t come back (ouch). Not a professional response...
Read moreCame here with another person for a Friday fish fry. We were happy to wait at the bar for a table and the bar staff was very friendly. After about 30 minutes and finishing our drinks, we were seated at a table and placed our orders right away. Then an hour passed, our waitress never approached us once to offer drink refills or to see if we needed anything. I had to flag her down just to get the drink I had originally asked for. I know she was very busy, but I haven't had service so poor in a very long time. An hour and a half after arriving, we let her know we were wondering where our food was and her response was that most people have to wait over an hour once placing their order. Suddenly, our order came out. Needless to say, if you want speedy service, you apparently need to order carryouts. We won't be back. A little communication would have gone a long way in this instance. I understand it was busy, but we should have been offered drinks, and informed the kitchen was exceptionally busy. We go out most Fridays for a fish fry and this type of service is...
Read moreVistited liquid Johnnys last night prior to the cubs brewers game and had a fantastic experience. The food was really good and the beer was cold - perfect. We planned on taking their complementary shuttle to the game, however the driver left before we were able to get on. Not a big deal as the bar is not far from the stadium so an Uber would have been fairly easy to get. However, the owner of the bar was there and personally took us to the game in an additional shuttle they have. It was a quick easy ride, dropped off right in front of the entrance. When the game was over the shuttle was right in front waiting for us and took us back to the bar. The bar is also right off I-94 so easy to jump back on avoid traffic and get back south. Great experience and customer service will be back again and would recommend to anyone that’s wants good food, drinks...
