Steny's Tavern & Grill — Restaurant in Milwaukee

Had a such a weird interaction with one of the female workers wearing a snapback at the hostess stand. My party and I came in early to get a table for our group 5 minutes before 9pm We didn’t know prior to arriving that they card after 9pm until we got there so We got sat and ordered our drink and shortly after our group got there but couldn’t get in because they realized one of them was missing their ID. We get it places have rules we weren’t going to try and argue with the workers to let them in even though they weren’t going to drink. So we paid and walked out no big deal. My partner and I were walking out and the hostess said “ have a good night” which i replied back the same ( my partner didn’t hear her the first time) and they didn’t hear my reply so with a sassy rude tone she said “ have a good night “ again and gave my partner a weird look even though my partner gave two ladies stains at the hostess stand a goodbye hand motion… this must have really ticked them off because shortly after while our group was standing outside trying to find another place to eat a worker comes out telling us we can eat a the restaurant across the street so we respond like okay?

She was saying something along the lines of she can’t help us because one of us didn’t have an ID (which was okay we get it) and how my partner was giving her attitude which I replied she was half deaf and couldn’t hear her when she said “ have a nice night” earlier inside the restaurant and that we aren’t eating here so you can go back inside.

she proceeded to just stand their trying to argue with us while we are just trying to find another place to eat.

overall such a strange interaction and totally unnecessary behavior on the workers part. Had a good time at...

We had a friend that recommended this place to us. We were very hesitant based on the reviews. They added a mandatory 18% to our tab. When I asked she said anything over 25$ gets 18%. On the actual bill it said anything over 50$. No one really knows this policy there. It wasn’t a big deal and I would’ve actually tipped at least 20% but it just felt as if they were sneaky about it. It wasn’t on the menu or anywhere else.

Food- wings are 10$ for 6 wings. On the menu, there are no prices once again I felt as if they were sneaky. The food was mediocre and not worth the high price. Mac and cheese had good reviews so we tried it and it wasn’t worth it. We actually didn’t even eat it all and it was a small bowl.

Apps- we got the pretzel and it was pretty good.

Fries- were cold and soggy and not worth it.

Atmosphere- they had quite a few TVs and showed quite a few games. We requested the Ohio state game and they put it on a few TVs.

Service- greeting was excellent but after that it went down hill. The greeting was probably the best part of the night. The waitress wasn’t too bad. She came by a few times but it wasn’t that great.

Overall- I feel as if this place is a good sports bar. The beer selection was great, the atmosphere was great, the space was great and not a lot of waiting. I started this review with a 3 star and went back and forth debating if I should give it a 2 star. and after thinking about it, 2.5 would be more accurate. I feel as if this establishment was misleading, mistrustful and the food was mediocre.

Disclaimer** if the menu does say that 18% gratuity is included please let me know and I’ll update this review. I would’ve tipped more than 18% I just didn’t like the fact it was sneaked...

Okay so yes, it is a sports bar, but I DID check to be sure it wasn't a Brewers game night. Unfortunately I DIDN'T check all other sports and of course...Admirals game...playoff...so very busy and very loud. It's a very upbeat atmosphere and everyone is very happy and respectful toward others. Even though it became standing room only as game time approached and shuttles were running. The noise. Oh goodness. We had to yell across the table to each other. Apparently it's true, the older you get, the less you're able to tolerate higher volumes. But it is definitely a fun-loving crowd and atmosphere.

Service was great. We went for the wing special, which starts at 6pm and were there at 5:30. We decided to have appetizers and drinks while we waiting for the wings, but she told us they could start taking orders at 5:30. Woohoo! Still had apps.

We both had the Honey BBQ Wings with Bleu Cheese. I had the Quesadilla and my friend had the Loaded Tots. Everything was delicious. The wings are not overly sauced so they weren't exceptionally messy. The way they are cooked, they come out more of glazed finished - which is wonderful. The tots were very loaded, and the quesadilla was really cheesy, with lots of fixins. We each could only finish half our dinners - of course. I LOVES me some leftovers.

I am SO frustrated. I just realized the pic of my wings did not save - or I accidentally deleted it. If I think about it before I finish off the leftovers, I'll take a new one and update my post. In the meantime, there is a pic of...
