Zebb’s Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Milwaukee

The food, as always, was wonderful. Having moved across town, I don't get out to the 27th & Morgan area a whole lot anymore, so we decided to hit Zebb's this evening, as opposed to Royal India, which has recently changed owners, name, and menu.

We found ourselves standing with a fairly large group of people when we entered, and the place was quite busy, suggesting a wait, but to our surprise, we were seated after about 3 minutes of confusion at the front of house. We were the last to arrive, but the first to be seated, possibly because we were the only 2-top waiting. This confusion/indifference from the front of house continued throughout the meal.

Our order was taken as normal, drinks came out quickly enough, and the food followed shortly after. The kitchen is semi-open and you can hear the back of house communicating and coordinating with each other as a well-oiled machine!

My wife ordered the double cheddar burger and fries, and I ordered the roast turkey dinner. Both meals were better than they had any right being at a huge-menu family diner. It is impressive how good the food is for how big their menu gets. Compliments to the back of house for such a job well done.

Unfortunately, the front was another matter. We watched a screaming match between the host (manager?) and a server, who asked if he should walk out or stay. It was not only unprofessional, but flat out weird, because he stayed and took care of his tables better than our own server, who spent more time standing at the window and talking with her coworkers than serving tables. When she did come by, it was swift and dismissive. Yes, we got our drinks refilled, but absolutely no banter at all... no "how you doing, how is everything tasting, etc" that you'd expect with a mid-meal check in.

She asked if we wanted boxes. I did (the food IS good, after all,) but I also wanted dessert... she brought the box and the check and dropped it on the table without a word. Confused, we boxed up our meals, sat there like idiots for 10 more minutes, and she came back and said "oh hey, I dropped your check right here if you missed it" and started to rush away again... I had to stop her and ask if I could even order dessert, and she acted like I was stupid for needing to ask... like a dismissive "well, YEAH, OF COURSE you can. What do you want?"

I wanted a banana split. They were out of ice cream.

Disappointed and a little dejected, I went to pay my bill. It took another 10 minutes of standing around like a moron to do that.

It's one of the very, very few instances I'd even considered dining and dashing, and the only time it was due to the level of unprofessionalism and general negligence from the front of house staff. I'm a little sad I didn't, honestly, but the chefs deserved to be paid for holding up their end of the bargain.

TL;DR - food is great, service is mediocre at best. Worth a single...

We like this place better than Omega, our breakfast’s were excellent. They definitely don’t have as much offerings as Omega but our breakfast didn’t even compare to across the street, Zebb’s was MUCH better tasting! The reason for the 4 stars is the false advertising!!! The menu price and the price they charge are different!!? They need to update the menu they give you!! ( ie. $13.99 is really $14.98!!! ). Not that big a deal but still, maybe they could just tell you or ink over the old prices? ( I looked online and for some reason the prices are even higher ???) Also beverage prices are high !!! Updated menu would give them pretty close to a 4.5 -5 stars for our breakfasts. We paid $53 after the tip of $9 but prices are surely going up… Mine was their meat lover’s skillet with tons of very good tasting meats and tons of cheddar, mini reds, mushroom, onion with scrambled and my wife ordered off their flyer menu,a Mexican red sauce seasoned steak and cheese skillet with green peppers,tomato, onions,jalapeños, mini reds,cilantro that came with fried quesadillas. So if you REALLY like HOT!!! Which she loved! We could only eat 1/2 and took the rest for tomorrow. 😋 I did eat the tasty pancakes though! I like their coffee better too! ...

I haven’t been here in person before but I’ve seen other reviews saying it’s dirty. I Grubhub an order from there and halfway eating my food I noticed a roach crawling out my salad.. I took a video and I threw away all the food and almost brought up what I have already ate. The food itself wasn’t bad but the roach really took me out. I called to tell them about it, which at 1st they didn’t believe me until i said i have a video, and they said they’d give me a free meal.. obviously I don't want another meal from there.. the owner(I think) was polite about it but I feel like I should’ve been offered something more than a $40 refund and a free meal. I get it if it was a fly or ant but a ROACH?! I wasn’t going to come to the reviews but I was told I would get a call back and it’s been 2 days so now I’m here letting you guys know just be careful! I’ve been to the restaurant across from there and it’s clean with good food. Maybe try there? Idk regardless I will not be eating there again.
