Golden Chick — Restaurant in Mineral Wells

We live close by and usually consider eating here a real treat. However, today we went in to eat and ordered our usuals. When I got my food I noticed my mac and cheese was way less than normal, maybe half a scoop. I asked the lady at the front for a little more since it was obviously not a full serving. Of course, this was after not being recognized for about 5 minutes. She stated that that was all it came with. Mind you, not even the bottom of the bowl was completely touched by the mac and cheese. Ok, so I just accept it and move on feeling unappreciated for my business. Didn't want to cause a scene so I went to sit down to eat. What little was in my bowl was now cold. Plus my tender sandwich was now cold and there was so much honey mustard that I was barely able to eat it. The soda tasted like the machine hadn't been clean in a while. Then I find out my wife's meal is unsatisfactory as well. Her okra was very salty and her plate was cold too since she waited for me to come back and sit down. I started to take it all back and ask for my money back and just take her somewhere better and my wife was in agreement, but I didn't feel at that moment that would show proper character on my part. So, we ate our cold and unpleasant meal as much as we could stomach and left still hungry. We decided we would not be back since our purchase was not appreciated. I am so disappointed. My granddaughter told me that our Golden Chick was sold to corporate and everything had changed, but not for the better. I had to find out if what she told me was true. I ordered a family size chicken salad. Unfortunately she was right. The wonderful chicken salad is not what we are used to. It was very bland. My favorite part were the grapes. As I transferred it to a better container I counted a sum total of 3, yes 3, grape halves. If I have to add to theirs to make it palatable, I might as well make my own or buy H‑E‑B's I ordered two rolls so I could make sandwiches tomorrow. They are not the same either. These looked like someone grabbed them with their hands and scrunched them into a ball. Not the beautiful golden rolls we are used to. I also ordered a 4 piece chicken strip combo with okra. No okra, fries instead, which I never order. I usually give my boxer a couple bites of chicken because you can easily peel the coating off. Not anymore. Was very disappointed. Service was good but the food was not what I was expecting. Why is it when you go to a fast food place in a smaller town, the food is never as good as it is in the city? My favorite in San Antonio was Golden Chick but I just moved back uo here and this Golden Chick has a lot of work to do. The tea was good, the fries good but would've been better if they had been hot and the chicken sandwich, the main part of my meal was horrible. The bun was hard and darker then it should be. The chicken crust not crispy like it should be and don't even get me started on how much gristle it had. I've eaten a lot of Golden Chick and this was the only time the food has been bad. Don't know what they are doing different from the ones in San Antobio but I will not be a returning customer. If this town knew how good its suppose to taste I promise this place wouldn't be...
