All the rating goes to the food and not the environment, which means that when I get food from Boludo next time I will most likely do takeout instead of dine in, which is totally okay, because based on the food alone, Boludo absolutely deserves a 5.
The empanadas are just delicious and each kind offers such a different type of flavor dimension. The only ones that tasted similar were carne and pollo because they used similar kinds of seasoning. I could taste the cumin visibly for both. The other kinds were pretty representative of their respective menu descriptions. There was also a small container of sauce we could use for the empanadas, and I don't know what the sauce was made from, but it was really good! Totally offered an even new kind of flavor. I have to comment on the Messi empanada because I actually liked it the least even if it was the special item. Its ingredients determined that it tasted almost like a hot pocket, and when I had it I just kept thinking "why am I ordering this here at Boludo" simultaneously.
In terms of the pizza, I had one bite of the Peras and I thought it was great. The only problem for me was personal, that I didn't like gorgonzola cheese, so the "nasty" cheese taste made me realize how good the pizza would be for someone who loves that kind of cheese, and that's why I thought it was great (even if not for me). The Margarita, on the hand, was out of this world for me! I have had this kind of pizza in many places, but this one in Boludo was so good because I could taste the basil so well even when there was clearly not a basil leaf on a slice, let alone on slices that actually had basil leaves. The cheese was visibly fresh, which was amazing as well. The pizza was really thin, so I actually had to use a fork to transfer it to my plate, but that's okay because more content less crust anyway.
Okay, now that I have talked about the food, I must say that when I stepped in, there were dirty plates everywhere and no one was cleaning them up. Luckily no customers were there so I was able to find a clean table. In addition, a lot of the plates were not really well-washed because I could visibly see dirty spots and sometimes even leftover food marks still on most of the plates available for customers to grab. All of these observations tell me that next time I should pursue takeout here.
Regardless, the empanadas and pizzas were some of the best I have had anywhere in the Twin Cities and I would strongly recommend...
Read moreI ordered through Uber Eats using a gift card I got for my birthday and this pizza was not living up to my expectations though the photos are great. The quality of the boxes the pizzas were in was really impressive, almost like shoe box quality but cardboard. Commend them on the branding!
Pizza looked promising but underdelivered completely. Not sure what kind of pizza I was expecting but the bottom of the pizza was completely soggy and falling through/apart, the sauce was way too sweet to be enjoyable, didn't realize I was ordering a dessert pizza. The sauce ruined it for me, it wasn't salvageable but the crust was good, wood fired tasting. The soggy bottom was also disappointing, just kind of disintegrated in front of my very eyes. These cheese and meat on the pepperoni pie was good but I couldn't really get through the porteno pizza because of how sweet everything was. I'm not a huge fan of sweet pizza but hopefully my partner will finish all of this, it was pretty expensive! $24.50 for the porteno and $20.50 for the pepperoni.
Saving grace was the flan I ordered for dessert. It was made with candied pecans and dulce de leche, this was so decadent and cute in a little mason jar, highly recommend the flan!
Would not recommend Boludo if...
Read moreWe couldn't decide what to do for lunch, saw the menu online, and ultimately decided to give it a try. It was absolutely worth it! There's something about restaurants in "downtown" districts that just feel welcoming and cozy, and this place was much the same! The woman taking our order at the counter was super nice and very helpful when it came to deciding what to get. Finally - the food. Oh my gosh, the food. I think it will be really hard to top this place during the rest of our trip, but wow. The empanadas were perfectly crispy on the outside, both the chicken and beef varieties were so flavorful, and the oil only added to it. However, when it come to the pizza, I was completely sold. We ordered the Porteño pizza and couldn't believe how delicious it was! The cheese was perfectly gooey, the crust was nice and crunchy, not overdone or too doughy. Everything about it was fantastic. Best pizza I've had in a long time, and I've had some really good pizza. We took the rest home, and it was still delicious. Happy to spread the word...
