Hong Kong Noodle is no longer on UMN campus. They've moved to Bloomington near the airport and MOA. We went for dim sum on their soft opening and am really excited about it. The space was great, roomy and decorated neutrally. The service was TERRIFIC. They came by frequently to pickup empty plates and checked our tea. There were not a lot of people there at 9:30am so it was fairly relaxed. We ordered off a tablet, which was easy. Some items had pictures and some did not. Unfortunately, this led us to order some things we did not want. There was a paper menu too. Some items on the paper menu could not be found on the tablet like Shrimp Ball, but we forgot to ask. Food came out fast and hot. Flavor was mild and delicate, exactly what dim sum is suppose to be and the texture was spot on. Everything was steamed perfectly. I would say there's a couple of things that would make the food a liitle better. The spring onions seems to be very tough in our fried wonton or just needs to be cut in smaller pieces, and some of the dumpling skin was just a bit doughier than we'd like. I like a more delicate wrapper. Highlights include Har Gow, Shumai, Pan Fried Dumpling with Chives. The pricing is about $6 to $8 each with a standard 3 to 4 delicious and plump (they did not skimp on the fillings) morsels per basket/plate. With the tablet, you can see the price, which is a welcomed novelty for dim sum. A good rule of thumb for ordering dim sum is 3-4 dish person. Unless, you go with your teenage son, then you order 10 items which comes out to around $74 plus automatic gratuity, i think around 18%, comes to a total of $90 for 2. My only real complaint is that the tea was not good. Tasted like your backyard tree leaves, not fragrant at all and it poured out super dark like it's been overbrewed. But all in all, greatly enjoyed the decor, service and food. Super excited to bring lots of friends for a bigger party and...
Read more3 stars is being nice more of 2.5 ✨. Putting in consideration that it's a soft open at the new Bloomington location and that we came before the Friday dinner rush. Waited a little bit to get a tablet to see the menu and sat awhile to put in our order... That was just the beginning of it all. It took 35-40 min for food to completely come out. Food was warm/cooler than it should be. It seems like it was sitting in the kitchen for awhile waiting for the waiter to serve it. An extra 40+ minutes literally in waiting for the check to come out and they have the audacity to charge 18% for a family of 3. Trust me we were not the only unhappy ones waiting for the check. Bill came out to be $145. I saw an older couple in their 80's sitting there waiting for the check way before us and the husband had to walk around struggling with his legs to find someone to ring them up. Smh 🤦🏻♂️We tried to flag down 3 different staff to get our check. Don't even ask about how long it took us to get togo boxes. After asking 3 staff we still waited for a long time. It got to the point my wife stood up, raised her voice very uncommon for her to do that and waived the guy in front (host/owner) to ring up our check. It was not a good experience! Food was good slightly salty but there was no refills on the water or extra napkins. Very understaffed but don't do that - Service is service and you deserve tip when it's earned. Charge when it's 6+ people or more. Very disappointing! Wait for this place to get their kinks situated before trying it out because it not worth the long wait IF you're a loyal fan of the original location at the UofM. Location is very inconvenient and tucked away between hotels, motels, and business buildings across from Walmart. Somewhat going out of your...
Read moreI would normally give a restaurant two opportunities before writing them off, but I could not fathom going back. HKN had reopened at a new location near the airport, and we planned to go on Easter Sunday for dim sum. While we anticipated a long wait due to the holiday, it was unacceptable to wait over an hour without a hostess informing us of the wait time or checking in on us. They had a tablet screen for checking in. During our wait, the hostess came out twice to seat three other groups of guests in the dining area. After over an hour, we had to ask about our place in line; it was then that the hostess finally seated us — we noticed multiple empty tables when we sat down. They provided us with a tablet and a laminated menu for dim sum items. However, we could not order directly from the tablet and had to flag down a staff member to place our order. Many items were out of stock, which we understood. We ordered a little of everything typical for dim sum. When the food finally arrived, the buns were quite hard and lacked the soft, fluffy texture you'd expect, plus they didn't look like the images. The rice that came was still hard, probably from not enough water during cooking. Everything tasted the same and was very bland. To make matters worse, we found a hair in one of the dumplings, which was very off-putting and unhygienic. We brought this to the waitress's attention; she quickly took the item away and, after 10 minutes, asked if we wanted it remade or refunded. When we finally received the check, the item that was supposed to be removed still appeared on it - had to request for the dumpling to be removed since it had hair in the dish and they took it back. Overall, it was not worth the wait or the price — the worst restaurant we...
