We stopped here yesterday because we happened to be in the area for something else and wanted to grab a bite to eat. They had a good beer selection, but to be honest, I don’t feel like there was anything that stood out to me that was different than what other breweries are doing. And the food options were ok, some typical appetizers and woodfired pizzas, which were good, but nothing you couldn’t get anywhere else. My main problem and probably the only reason that I’m writing this review is because when I went back to look at my receipt in my email today, I noticed that the total for a table of 4 (2 smaller sized pizzas, a side of fries, and 4 drinks, one of which was nonalcoholic) was $67 but somehow I ended up paying $89. There was a 20% “flat fee” added in addition to other taxes and fees. If I had been waited on, I could maybe justify an automatic tip, because I understand that these poor waitresses are not being tipped the way they should because people are getting tired of having to tip for everything. But to order everything from a QR code at my table and have somebody drop it off to me, that doesn’t justify a 20% tip. These places need to start paying their employees instead of expecting the customers to do it. It is their business, not ours, and they wouldn’t be anywhere without their staff or customers. And to be completely honest, I was planning on leaving a tip of some sort, but there wasn’t any option when I closed my check (again from my phone). I don’t think I would’ve given 20%, but I would’ve at least left a little something for the bartenders and the people who made my food. But I definitely won’t be going back here and I’m writing this review hoping that maybe the owners will see it and others will see it as well and be aware when they stop in. One thing I will give them is that it was a very nice building with a nice patio in a very nice location. So if you don’t really care about how much you’re spending, this is the place...
Read moreFirst time visited Pryes. Arrived late so it was dark outside, but there seemed to be a good seating area outdoors, with some nice chain of lamps hanging around. On a warmer day/time outside seating would be nice! Inside it was quite massive with lots of different seating alternatives except bar seating. Beer selection was really good, wide selection of styles, including at least one hard seltzer and a non alcoholic beer, all made by Pryes i belive. I tried a double pastry stout, maibock, fruited sour, a nordic pilsner and a wild ale (beer/wine hybrid). The pastry stout was a bit "too much" for me late in the evening, but great score on Untappd. All good beers in general but the one standing out for me was the hybrid beer Idyll Forest: Jardins Locaux Prairie Star 2024. I drink a lot of these types of beers in Europe and specially Belgium, and this was exceptionally good. I am always a little bit sceptical of US wild ale due to many tends to be high focus on being as sour/acidic as possible, but this was really balanced, smooth (even for the abv) and so refreshing! Also great and informative service from the guy at the bar (dont recall his name)!
They also have a good variasion of food. You can order until 23:00 on a Saturday at least (1 hour before closing). I had some Elote fries which was nice. From what i recall they also have caesar salads, some aubergine dish ++ and pizzas.
Its also possible to play the game Feather...
Read moreI've been to a lot of breweries over the years, checked in over 1,500 unique beers on Untappd, and I am always on the lookout for great beer and great destinations. Pryes is a pleasant surprise and a great addition to the Twin Cities brewery scene, and I am excited to see where they're headed in the future.
The space is what you might expect — a large, open, warehouse-like space with super high ceilings, a long bar, and your standard seating options. But it's also a step up from the others with their in-house "bowling" game, an attached pizzeria, and super swanky unisex bathrooms. ALSO, I might add, they've got the best designated bike parking in the entire Twin Cities. Other breweries should take note of how they've designated adequate space to lock up and come on in. The only other brewery that has surpassed what I've seen here is Hop Valley in Eugene, OR where they actually have a closed off bike corral to park your bike.
But yes, add Pryse to your destination list. It's a great brewery with a lot of promise. Their beers are pretty good and I look forward to seeing what they do in the future. I wouldn't necessarily rank them up in my top three breweries, but if they keep things going like they are and continue to work on their A-game, they just may very well vie for a spot in...
