EDIT: The Manager was extremely attentive to the problem at hand. Seriously one of the nicest people I have ever met. She invited us to come back for a better experience and we had an AMAZING time! The waitress was great and the food was so good. It definitely changed our opinion of this place. Freehouse went above and beyond to make this right with us and we greatly appreciate it!! The manager could have simply taken this as a bad review and moved on but you can tell she genuinely cares about each and every customer.
I am not someone to complain and I literally never write reviews but the experience I had at The Freehouse was terrible and left a really bad taste in my mouth.
I went with 15 people to the Freehouse for my birthday. I booked a private table in "The Nook" and agreed on a minimum dollar amount as well as signed a contract and put down a deposit. So basically, I tried to make everyones lives easy with a big group. When we arrived the table was pushed so far to the windows that we had to ask the waiter if we could move the tables twice. This wasn't really an issue because he seemed okay with it. But as more people arrived, our waiter was very rude to us. As people were still filing in, people were moving around and finding their seats. A few people moved seats and I think that made the waiter angry because when one of our friends ordered a drink he said "Are you done moving then?" which was extremely rude and uncalled for. Once we were ready to order appetizers and food, no one moved seats and we stayed where we were. The waiter also asked in the beginning if one check was okay when I had stated several times over email that we would be doing individual checks.
I want to preface that no one was drunk or rowdy the entire time we were there. We were all very respectful, said thank you, and kept to ourselves. When we finally ordered our food, all the food came out except for one person's. She had to wait an additional 25 minutes to get her food. When I asked our waiter where her food was, I got attitude from him and he said "Yeah it's coming" and seemed like he was super annoyed with me. One of our friends also overheard him at the table closest to us say "Sorry about them" referencing our table. This is extremely unprofessional and really put a damper on the dinner. We felt like he didn't like us and that we were unwelcome.
When it was about 30 minutes before we had to leave, the waiter, in front of everyone, said, "Can I pull you aside and talk to you about the contract" and I said, "Of course." He said we were $60 away from the minimum and suggested I order 3 bottles of wine for the table to cover it. I said I didn't feel comfortable with that and then he suggested a round of shots for everyone instead. I said, "No I don't want to front the entire $60". His response was "Well I could ask everyone individually if they want another drink but that's kind of awkward for me." 1. You are our waiter, that is what you are supposed to do, and 2. It felt very pressuring to just front the cost because he didn't want to ask people. He ended up asking a few of my friends who did order more drinks and we met the minimum. After we got to the point where it would cover it, he stopped asking anyone else and just walked away, so half the table didn't get asked if they wanted to order another drink.
When he brought out checks, I asked if I could get a box to go and he responded again with "Yeah I will just give me a second" and then never got me a box. I didn't feel like I could ask again and even if I did want to, he dropped off all the checks and said "Thanks guys see you later" and put up peace signs on both hands. So at that point, I was like okay I guess I'm leaving half my meal here that I paid for.
Overall the experience was pretty negative and disappointing as we spent a lot of money, we were kind and respectful and we were all really looking forward to this.
I hope that this type of disrespect is not something that is common but I know from my experience, I will not...
Read more(Last visited on 9/13/2021). While hanging out in Minneapolis for the evening Bae was doing some Yelp'ing since it was dinnertime. She saw the great ratings this place had so we gave it a shot! Here's how it went...
Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right in the northeast section of Minneapolis is this gem. It's a trendy spot that looks SUPER modern and wide open. The ceilings are high, there are the latest flatscreens hung all over, giant steel vats where beer is made are in plain sight and giant glass windows allow great views of outside for people watching. The music was chill and the atmosphere was even more chill. It was a weeknight so it wasn't super busy, but I know during the weekend this place gets LIVE.
Service: I forget the young lady's name that took care of us, but she was awesome. There wasn't much going on so she was able to give us her undivided attention and that was good.
Food: I was feeling healthy so I went with the Honey Lime Chicken Salad which is a bed of mixed greens underneath sous vide chicken breast, grape tomatoes, charred sweet corn, golden raisins, avocado, blue cheese, bacon then drizzled with honey lime dressing. It was delicious. The chicken was seasoned so well. The sweet and savory dressing melded well with all of the ingredients in the salad.
Value: My delicious salad was only $16.50. I'd say that's a pretty great deal for the quality of food I got and the portion!
In conclusion, I really enjoyed this place and I'd love to come back here and hang out. So if you're reading this... INVITE US OUT! Lol. If you made it this far in the review, I appreciate you reading. Please do me a favor and head on over to "The Hungry Road" on YouTube and subscribe! Read moreReally really really good. I got the steak florentine, and my partner got the steak and pierogies. We had the brussel sprouts for the appetizer and ended with the “Carrot Cake for Two.”
The 🌟 star 🌟 of the show was honestly the brussel sprouts. They come with a goat cheese, honey and almonds. Truly did not think I was going to fall in love with these, but I’m married to them. Highly recommend those brussel sprouts.
Steak florentine was gorgeous as I needed something more sweet/on the acidic side (this is where the lemon shined). The steak was perfectly medium-rare, and worth the $30. Mashed potatoes aren’t something one can mess up, and Freehouse made them perfectly. Steak and pierogies were also extremely delicious. My partner ate all his food before I could cut into my steak. My polish ancestors would loose it over how delightful those pierogies are. 10/10 would order again.
I got to try their only cider they have (I cannot remember the name unfortunately) and it was a nice sweet pairing with my steak. My partner got a brown ale and loved it. At the end I tried their pineapple-mango mojito, and that was honestly lackluster but forgivable as everything else was on par. The mojito didn’t have enough flavor for either mango or pineapple, but that can also just be from my personal preferences with taste.
The “Carrot Cake for Two” did not disappoint either as it was perfect for two (but maybe 3 actually) people, as the slice you get is huge. The vanilla ice cream that was paired with it was perfect and scrumptious. Freehouse is on the pricer side of things, as we paid about $120 for our dinner, but worth every cent!! We left with tight belts on our pants and were very...
