*Updated 4/24: We have been back a number of times and I now get the Shojin Ramen ~ that's my jam. YUM! I leave feeling full, satisfied, and healthy. The chef has served us a few times and is a very nice guy. ------------- We came to specifically eat at Kawae because of the good reviews. I would say it lived up to the reviews. Great execution, good flavor, more than enough food. However, the ramen we got (Tonkotsu) was too rich for us and didn't have enough/any vegetables. I know that's not really a thing with ramen (pork is), but it's my thing since I don't eat much meat. I always try the main thing at ramen places because that's what they do best (like when I went to the original Momofuku in NY), but it is not what I would like to consistently order. I would definitely go back, but would ask them for their recommendation for a lighter broth and a ramen with more vegetables. OR if they ever did veggie udon I'd be all over it. It looks like you can modify the Tonkotsu (no 14 hr broth, no pork), I would be curious about those options. I am curious about the Shojin. The gyoza dumpling was an interesting presentation and very good. I reviewed the food hall separately, it's not a super enjoyable atmosphere. We will definitely come back here to try other dishes, but most likely will get take out. In the Summer it could be nice to sit out in the courtyard area.

We tried the Tan Tan Men and Tori Paitan. The Tori Paitan is a chicken broth ramen. I do not think this was executed well, the broth was flavorless and I think that the leg quarter that was included was a too large. I wish they would have cut it up a little smaller. The egg that was provided was not marinated or soft boiled. It was a half a hard boiled egg. Very disappointing. Presentation was great. But unfortunately the ramen was a dud for me and I would not order it again. The Tan Tan Men on the other hand was good. I really enjoyed the broth it had so much flavor and had a good spice level to it. The char sui that was provided was a little dry but it went well with the ramen. And they included a whole soft boiled egg also. I would get this one again.

we lost count of the number of times we said “wow” while eating our food at ramen kawae. everything we had was off the chart delicious. the flavors were complex and rich, with impressive portion sizes and unique flavors. i am already making plans for ordering all entirely different dishes next time i go because i have no doubt they will be amazing!

A great new spot for ramen and other Japanese dishes. A few weeks ago I tried one of the ramens and was pretty satisfied. Today I tried the karaage rice bowl and was really pleasantly surprised, there was a lot of chicken and the pieces were thick and meaty. The chicken was also fried really well, it wasn't overly greasy. I will say that the food was a little under salted today, but once I added a little more salt it was really good. The rice had some sweetness to it that reminded me of sushi rice. I think this place is off to a good start,...
