The hubs and I decided to go here for date night on Saturday and I can only say the experience was mediocre at best. This is a high end restaurant where you can expect to pay $30+ for the majority or your entree options, but it certainly wasn't worth that. Here are the notable missteps: When we were seated, our table had just been wiped from the previous diners and was absolutely sopping wet. The hubs couldn't even sit because the bench was so wet, it would have soaked through his pants. He had to walk over to the server station to request a dry cloth to dry the bench so he could sit down.
Our server came over relatively quickly after that and was pleasant, but then we sat there for a full 20 minutes after that just awaiting our drinks and water.
The hubs ordered their Beef Wellington. Tried to order the double since they're only 4oz, but our server came back and said they only had 1 left (mind you, it's only 7:30pm). So he ended up just ordering the single and adding a crab cake on the side. His food ended up be fully below average. I'm a decent home-cook and he was wishing we'd just stayed home and I'd made him wellington there. It was completely bland, overcooked and he struggled to find any of the noted ingredients from the menu (lacking the mushrooms and prosciutto particularly). The crab cake was more bready filler than crab (I just had amazing crab cakes a week prior at Ike's and this definitely didn't hold a candle). We tried to show our server that the steak was overcooked, but she didn't listen. She just told us they're prepared to med-rare to medium, which is what he wanted. It was not, it was medium-well, basically no pink whatsoever. His glazed carrots were burned and the "garlic" mashed potatoes were under-salted and completely lacked in the garlic department
Our server was friendly enough, like I said earlier. But everything was just really underwhelming, the food was disappointing, and for that level of restaurant and pricing, I really expect to be impressed. The hubs said the best part of his meal was the single glass of wine he had. He'd have ordered another, but feared waiting 20 minutes again for it, so he didn't. I don't think we'll be back if that's what we can expect for a...
Read moreI dropped in to Redsstone Minnetonka's bar expecting to repeat a 5-star experience I posted two years ago. I’ve been dining at Redstone locations since 2018, however,, my latest visit made it clear that things have gone downhill to say the least.
The bar had maybe 8–10 people, plenty of open seats. I sat down, and within a minute got a menu. I politely asked the bartender to wipe down the wet bar top next to me. His reaction made it obvious he wasn’t happy about being asked to do the bare minimum. Not exactly a welcoming start.
My first drink was solid—full pour, mixed right, exactly what I remembered Redstone for. But that ended up being the only highlight of the night. I ordered Steak Eggrolls, which were very good, and then asked the slimmer bartender for a second drink. This one was a joke—barely a two-second pour. When I questioned him, he claimed it was “1¼ ounces.” We went back and forth; he offered to remake it, but the fact is, no guest should have to debate the basics of a fair pour at a high-end restaurant. At that point, I closed my tab.
As I left, one of the servers was literally sprinting after a dine-and-dash table, coming back visibly upset. That made me draw upon a conclusion there was no FOH manager visible, no oversight, no support. A manager on the floor could have addressed quality complaints, ensured consistency, and prevented situations like this. Instead, the staff were left to fend for themselves, and the guests felt it as the same applies to the KM.
Redstone has “jumped the shark.” The front-of-house service is spiraling down. They were never quite Cheesecake Factory—but they used to be leagues ahead of Kona Grill which thankfully got shut down. Based on last night's encounter, the Cheesecake Factory Ridgedale, Moe’s in Chanhassen, Tavern 4&5 in Eden Prairie, even Outback in Bloomington all deliver better value, better pours, and far better service. Redstone is still charging top-tier prices, but the service no longer matches. That’s not just disappointing—it’s unacceptable as there are too many other...
Read moreTonight , I had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful Chilean sea bass dinner at Redstone in Maple Grove, MN. It was truly an exceptional culinary experience that I feel compelled to share. Firstly, the ambiance of the restaurant set the perfect tone for the evening. The warm lighting and cozy atmosphere immediately made me feel welcome and relaxed. Now, onto the star of the evening—the Chilean sea bass. From the very first bite, it was evident that this dish was crafted with expertise and care. The sea bass fillet was impeccably cooked to perfection—tender, moist, buttery and flaky. The flavors were beautifully balanced, with a delicate hint of herbs and a subtle yet satisfying richness. The presentation of the dish was also noteworthy. The sea bass was elegantly plated with a colorful assortment of seasonal vegetables, and perfectly cooked rice adding both visual appeal and complementary flavors to the main course. Accompanying the sea bass was a delightful sauce that enhanced the natural flavors of the fish without overpowering it. Every component of the dish seemed meticulously chosen to create a harmonious and memorable dining experience. The service throughout the evening was impeccable. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive, offering recommendations and ensuring that everything was to our liking. In conclusion, my Chilean sea bass dinner at Redstone was nothing short of extraordinary. It surpassed my expectations in every way—from the quality of the food to the service and overall dining experience. I highly recommend indulging in this culinary masterpiece if you have the opportunity—it's an experience that you won't...
