My wife and I was lucky enough to go on Friday, their first responders/ veterans appreciation day. We met Mr Richard Callahan (manager of operations) while in line to get inside. A very easy to talk to Gentleman and friendly! While all of us waited for the doors to open, they brought out a few samples. Every sample we had was tasty to say the least. Once inside, we met one of the owners with fist bumps and handshakes. You can clearly see they are true to their word on displaying heros of each branch of the military, police, and fire departments. Wonderful pictures of veterans, fireman and police hang on the walls. Various patches from each are hanging on them as well. Everyone we met or came in contact with that works there is so bubbly, friendly and happy! One man comes to mind (but not too take away from anyone else) who's name is Brenner! His smile never left his face! He is amazingly accommodating! The world needs more Brenner's! The food I can't even find perfect words to use for how good it is. Normally you'll get a good this or that but the side isn't, blah blah blah.. but here, every bite of every thing my wife and I tried was out of this world!! Great sized portions. All six sauces that set on every table tastes great, the green beans with bacon was so good, I drank the juice from it!!! The fries are hand cut and perfectly seasoned. The potato salad reminded me of my mom's. The sausage with jalapeno is so darn good without being to hot. The peach cobbler and brownies are simply to die for. Smoke brisket, the best I've ever eaten. I honestly hope it stays around for a very, very long time. Our area needed consistent, great BBQ and I truly believe it's been found in Missions BBQ. Even the "latrine" has a urinal that takes you back to your basic training days!! And for being one of the first 100 through the door we get a years free bbq... This just doesn't happen, like how percentages of proceeds go to various charities. At noon they stop all operations to play the Star Spangled Banner. Mad respect for doing that! If you buy the big American Hero Cup soft drink you can bring it back for .99 refills! Who does that?! Also, you can join their birthday club, hometown heroes club and veterans vip club! That's so awesome! It's great to see a place thoughtful of veterans, first responders and those that care for others in a time when so many don't. Great job Missions BBQ!
UPDATE: I've been there three more times since my first visit and I must say the service and food seems to get better and better with each visit! Convenient curbside pickup makes it even better!! They even have pictures of my father and I...
Read moreThis was my first introduction to Mission and I don't think I'll return. I ordered a combo plate with two sides. I was told that the combo I ordered would total about 15 ounces but I think they include the sides and cornbread to that claim. I requested the classic sausage and brisket, my sides were Cole slaw and Mac and Cheese. I also ordered corn on the cob. I had a voucher for a free sandwich so I ordered the pulled chicken. They put my order together rather quickly and I was sitting to my dinner rather soon. I started, as I always do, with the slaw. Tasty but rather plain, not creamy at all, mostly a viner based slaw. Moved to the Mac and Cheese and was very happy. Very cheesy and creamy, plenty of flavor. The corn on the cob was very tasty, though maybe a little underdone. The sausage itself was packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. Four small sections, which came to about a quarter pound. The small pile of brisket weighed in at about a quarter pound as well, but it was very tender. I requested the lean and it was good, but it needed some moisture in the form of the sauces available on the table. It was a bit on the dry side. Once I finished the rest of my meal I attempted the pulled chicken sandwich with some table sauce. I was still hungry after the paltry servings of the rest of the meal but I was ony able to get through about a third of the sandwich before the texture revolted me. I don't know what it was but something about it just made me refuse to attempt eating it. If, and it's unlikely, I go back, I will avoid the pulled chicken. The rest of everything I ordered was tasty enough to warrant the...
Read moreOur 2nd visit here, as we live about an hour away. If we were closer, we would be regulars! The food is great. But even better, the employees. Mike was working for both our visits. Greeted us immediately and was so friendly. Today we also met Shaun/Sean. He talked to us a couple times and was fabulous. I didn’t catch her name, but also a young blonde girl who was constantly smiling. The friendly faces alone would be a reason to visit, even if the food were mediocre. But lucky for us, and Mishawaka, the food is delicious. We not only ate there and filled our belly’s up, but we also purchased a few take home sauces and a large dish of potato salad (hubby’s lunch this week). My only sad point was that the cheesy potato bake, which I had our first visit, is a seasonal item. They were delicious and I’d hope to have some today. But the potato salad didn’t disappoint. Both visits, we have split the three meat sampler, with two sides. Also both visits was pulled pork (my favorite), jalepeno sausage (husbands favorite). This time we tried Turkey (not dry, tasted very good). Last time we tried brisket as well. Coke slaw and potato salad (which we took extra home so obviously delish). Cole slaw was okay, I do prefer mine creamier. Last visit our sides were the cheesy potato bake (soooo delish) and baked beans (I am not a baked bean fan in general, but I did like these). Anyways mission bbq, you all rock! Can’t wait for my next trip to...
