This is my second review on google ever. I’m posting this because the greater South Bend area needs to support these folks.
The food here is the best Thai I’ve had in a long time.
I grew up eating great Thai food in Southern California and moved to the area 8 years ago. I don’t trust food reviews of locals because I’ve been let down so many times. It’s not your fault! You didn’t know what to compare to. Now you do.
There is a new couple cooking here (possibly soon to be new owners) that are doing it right! First off, there’s only Thai food on the menu. A good sign.
We ordered papaya salad, green curry, pad kee mao (drunken noodles) and taro sticky rice in banana leaf for dessert. Everything was fresh and flavorful (kefir lime, fish sauce, chilis). The curry was done so well (the coconut milk was creamy and not split from the oil like other places tend to be). The Pad Kee Mao wasn’t fried, thankfully. The noodles were chewy yet soft. I could go into so many more details, but if you’ve found this interesting at all, you should go. If you’re open to tasting what Thai food actually tastes like, then you’ll probably love it.
It may feel like slow service, but they are waiting on you /and/ cooking. It’s worth the wait. Honestly, it’s not that long. We also came in at 9pm and were their last customers.
I listed it as $20-30 per person if you’re doing the whole dinner works. You can get away with $10-20 if you’re keeping it simple.
Admittedly, I keep missing out on Taste of Asia’s open hours and Pinellia is my go to vegan Asian place. So no shade on...
Read moreI hadn’t tried the food here before so I decided to order and try it out. That decision might have been one of the most disappointing food choices I’ve ever made.
I ordered the Pad Thai, and the Coconut Chicken Soup. The pad thai was reasonable; solid portion size albeit pretty mediocre taste wise, the noodles were well cooked, but the chicken included had all of the life boiled out of it. It was dry, almost rubbery, and completely lacking in flavor. The soup was another story altogether though. I had never heard of this particular soup but it contained some of my favorite ingredients so I wanted to try it. The first taste was a shock to the senses, it was salty almost to the point of gagging and despite that there was absolutely no other flavor present. The broth was just salty water with no redeeming features at all and it also suffered from the same bland dry chicken. There were a few onions floating about in the soup that had also managed to lose any flavor they once held. The mushrooms were fine, but a salty mushroom is hardly a redeeming quality. I honestly can’t say I’ve tasted anything nearly this revolting in my life. I’m really sorry to be this critical but for $8.25 with the delivery up charge I really expected to atleast get something edible.
The only thing deserving of any recognition was the Thai Coffee, it was...
Read moreBE SURE TO ORDER THE THAI ICED TEA; IT'S TO DIE FOR! This is my favorite restaurant in the area for two reasons: 1) the cheap, yummy food, and 2) the quiet atmosphere. I like going there to eat in the restaurant even though they offer takeout. The decorating is cute and it's not ever noisey. Usually there are one or two other couples there. It's a great place for a nice, quiet date. I'm no expert in the authenticity of Thai cuisine, but I like it much more than Cambodian Thai downtown. The service is great; the waiter is always there when you need him. The food arrives quickly too. My significant other is a rather picky eater whereas I have exotic, adventurous tastes. There's a wide enough range of food on the menu for both of us to be happy. There isn't a kids menu per se, but there are enough non-spicy kid-friendly options. I'm also a vegetarian and the waiter is knowledgeable enough to tell you what looks vegetarian but actually has fish paste, what's vegan, etc. Overall, great place for people with any tastes, great place for peace and quiet, and...
