The prices of the sushi seems fair at first but upon ordering sushi to go, it was super fishy, smelled not fresh and really tiny pieces. I probably should’ve known since they didn’t do really any fresh rolls (just the chopped up spicy fish) that their sashimi wouldn’t be top notch. We did the sashimi platter to go, it said it would come with dikon radish and it was just a couple of green scallions and carrot flakes on the side. I’ll post the pictures I tried to take to show how small the sashimi pieces were but this was definitely not $50 worth of sushi. Where we usually order back home in the middle of the desert, we can order $56 of sushi and be stuffed. Here, thankfully we also ordered a second time from Biga pizza (check them out, they’re amazing, like some of the best pizza of your life amazing) so we were only disappointed for the few short minutes it took to eat the fishy sashimi. Maybe the dine in experience is better, but I wouldn’t recommend take out. Also we had ordered Toro and Salmon sashimi in addition to the sashimi platter and we mostly got more salmon and thinly sliced (also fishy) scallops. The Toro was the worst we’ve had. Sadly it was really smelly and tiny and the smell just took away from the texture. Hopefully this was just a one off for them.

Saketome is the premier sushi place in Missoula for sure. While often considered "American" sushi, rolls such as the ones served here are absolutely delicious, with braised and seared fish as well as raw abounding and drinks that are simple but have flair. I love to come here on a night out with my girlfriend, joking around about the huge Bill Murray wall art and kisses under the cherry blossom tree where we had one of our first dates. On this night we had four drinks, pinkies up, cardamom sweater, fuschia forever, and the sneaky Lee. All were good, but I REALLY liked the cardamom sweater, which had just the right contrast of the whiskey with lemon and sweetness. For rolls we had the Zootown Revelry, the Massive Attack (one of our favorites because it is filling and fried), and one other I can't remember. The Zootown revelry has a cashew paste that is amazing and gives a crunch I really like on sushi. This is a great place to take someone for a night out, and the music is amazing as well as the vibe. Saketome one more time! 😇😁

This is a great find for sushi connoisseurs like myself. This was my 3rd visit to the sushi restaurant. I am very particular with regards to the preparation of my raw fish. The sushi chefs on my 2 occasions were friendly, thoughtful and helpful. Eli (sushi chef) was fantastic on my very first visit and Laine (mgr) was extremely accommodating to my experienced sushi palate. Lexa was helpful to remember my first visit and experience with the Amaebi heads and took care to properly prepare it. I was less than impressed with my service of the servers on the night of November 5th. There was some type of event and I noticed there was not even acknowledgment of our arrival for over 5 minutes. There has never been uni available when I've visited. However, this time was worse with neither any uni or any type of tuna. Now that I know fish is brought in every Thursday, I'll make it a point to visit on a Thursday.

Maybe we had high expectations because I chose this place for my birthday dinner, but once inside the experience started its downhill slide to disappointment. We also make a lot of our own Japanese cuisine so it's nice to compare other people's creations. Starting with the staff not offering to sit us at the bar while they prepped a table, we proceeded to order appetizers and drinks. My $5 beer was poured from a can. The Sumomono was nothing more than basic sliced cucumber, not “bright” like I would expect. One word for the Miso – bland. Nothing fermented there. Next we wanted to try their Maguro, sashimi style for me and nigiri style for my wife. After about 40 minutes they brought my plate, but offered no explanation where hers was, however they were meeting about what I could overhear as health code violations so perhaps they were preoccupied. At that point we decided to pay the bill and leave, when her plate showed up. I wish I would have taken a picture, because the final straw was her $12 plate was two thumb size pieces of tuna over a tablespoon portion of rice. I would be embarrassed to serve that plate to anyone, especially my guests. We paid the bill in full and not only will we never go there again, we can not recommend...

We never got a chance to try to the sushi because we left before it ever showed up correctly. We showed up the day before and the wait was an hour plus. We made reservations for the next day, and then planned our day around it. At 6:45 (our reservation time) they sat us and did nothing, no drink orders no water nothing for 15 to 20 minutes, and then came over and discussed menu options with us. We ordered drinks, my husband ordered the chicken Bao for his meal since he doesn’t like sushi. He got his meal out in 10 minutes when our drinks showed up, even though we ordered it as his meal with my roll. I made one substitute to my roll, adding eel sauce and removing the apple relish, and when it finally showed up at 7:45 after my husband had finished his food 15 minutes earlier it came out incorrectly (no eel sauce) and when I asked for the correction the server (not our dedicated waitress) gave me attitude and brought back the roll with 3 drops of eel sauce on it. At that point the table next to us that was seated 15-20 minutes after us received their 3 rolls at least 10-15 minutes before us. Keep in mind this place has no options for ‘classic’ rolls, and had a hugely pretentious vibe that will drive me elsewhere. I will never...
