Quick Review: Wings are great, staff is stellar, best to call in your order. (4.5 stars)
Long Review: (updated 1/5/21) I have been visiting Wemo's for the wings once a week for years now. I'd call myself a fan, I even have the shirt and hat. This review will cover 4 topics: the Wings, the Value, the Service, and the Wait.
The Wings (5 stars): Best wings in West Mobile area, hands down. The sauce selection is quite diverse at 20-30 options with new flavors showing up on a semi-regular basis (check the menu). The mild buffalo is a classic and they nail it beautifully. The Mango habanero, lemon pepper, and jamaican jerk seems to be favorites amongst my friends. Just check the box before you leave, they tend to go light on the sauce when they are busy.
The Value (4 stars): In addition to Wemo's having the best wings in town, I'd also argue they are one of the best deals in town. On Tuesdays and Thursdays you can get the wings at reduced price, which is nice, and the standard meal prices are pretty good but I understand that this is a relative opinion (check menu prices). I typically walk out the door with 5 wings, fries, and a drink for $8 bucks.
The Service (5 stars): the people that work here are pretty great. A lot of high school and college kids that are fun to chat with and make a stellar team. They are very knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful to make corrections on the fly. I want to name all the staff and thank them personally but for their privacy I shall refrain here.
The Wait (4 stars): Your wait time will vary based on when you order. Monday-Thurs you can expect to get your order on the fly, and the food is sizzling fresh. I would avoid weekends, especially at dinner time, where you can sometimes run into 50+ minute wait times in a packed lobby. For a more consistent experience, always call ahead with your order and get the expected wait time from the staff. Though keep in mind on the weekend the wait might be 20 min when you call and by the time you get there it can be slammed.
So would I recommend Wemo's? Absolutely! Just call ahead on your orders and avoid Fri/Sat nights. (18/20 makes for 4.5 stars average, drop a star on weekend slams)
COVID-19 if you are avoiding contact with the public, I recommend that you be mindful of ordering at peak hours on Fri/Sat. Wemo's is very popular and you may end up waiting in a lobby full of people. While the staff is great at wearing masks from what I have seen, this is not the case with the public and a lot of guests dont bother. There are now tables out front.
Edit: spelling Update: the review is now more concise, includes Service as a metric, and reflects a more...
Read moreMy husband always orders from here on DoorDash for delivery during football/basketball season for him and his friends & he loves it. I don’t eat here all that often, in fact I think this was my second time ever having it AND most likely my last.
We called to place an order for pick up. The first time we called the phone rang until it went to voicemail, but we got an answer on the second attempt. They told us the order would be ready in 20 minutes.
We got there just before the 20 minute mark and our food wasn't ready. Which is completely fine. They were busy. We waited for about 50 minutes before my husband was handed our bag of togo food and came back to the car.
He asked me to check the bag to make sure everything was there. As soon as i opened the first container, i knew the food wasnt fresh. There was condensation all in the container and the fried okra were cold and soggy. I mention this to my husband, and he said he wasnt going back in there. (He was cranky..hangry at this point) so I check the rest of the boxes —for accuracy, not quality/temperature— & we drive home (7minutes from the restaurant).
I get home and open my food (buffalo chicken fries) and the whole plate was cold. The fries tasted like they had been fried a long time ago and not even held under a heat lamp. The chicken was soggy, and the queso dip was solidified at the bottom of the container. Clearly the food had not been made fresh.
Waiting longer than anticipated isn’t my complaint. I worked in restaurants for 10 years and understand how a kitchen can get backed up. But never have I worked in a backed up kitchen and sent out old food. Why did we wait for an hour to receive the food if it tasted like it had been made an hour ago?!
Can’t say “we’ll never be back” because men are men and will eat with no complaints. But next time I’ll head down airport to WingStop and get my FRESH hot food after waiting 45 minutes to an hour on...
Read moreI ordered my 15 breaded wings online at 1:53. I arrived to the store at 2:10 and was told it would be 5 minutes. At 2:30 I ask if it would be much longer and was told it would be 2 more minutes. At 2:48 I told them it had been an hour and people have come and gone that ordered after us. To that I received major attitude and told “well you ordered breaded wings they take longer” and I responded still politely and said “an hour though, and you said 5 minutes 45 minutes ago” to which she rolled her eyes and told me “it will be 5 minutes”. The lady ordering ask if they were running behind to which the girl said “no it’s just her, we are fine” while rolling her eyes again! I love WEMOs and have never had an issue but if this were my first experience, I would NEVER come back!!! And if I were the manager/owner I would most definitely address this little girl with pink glasses and at the least do some retraining on what customer service means!!!!!
Update: at 3:00 we received our food and ask to speak to a manager. We were told he wasn’t in, we ask who was in charge. A cook come up to speak with us and was very kind. He explained they made a mistake on our first set of wings and had to start over. Which makes much more sense than “breaded wings take longer”. We told him we understood and next time just communicate that so the customer knows what is going on and isn’t in the dark. He apologized for the wait and especially for the way we were treated, which was the biggest issue we had. The wings were great as usual and we will...
