Well I can say, I'm happy a Filipino restaurant opened out this way. I ordered a combo plate of the pork adobo that comes with a side of pancit and 3 pork Shanghai Lumpia and an extra order of the Shanghai lumpia. I waited outside for my food to go. A very friendly young man brought it out In a brown bag at which point I took the food and rushed home where i could greedily eat like the Savage pig I am with my favorite foods. When I opened my bag I was surprised to see that it was not quite what i ordered. I had actually two combo plates. Both were pork dishes that included the much needed pancit and lumpia that my stomach was demanding of me so rudely. Now, I'm half Filipino so I know a little bit about the foods. My moms side is from Ponponga and I know I'm spelling that wrong. Anyway its not about me , so with that said, there are different variants of Adobo depending on your province..one of the plates could very well be an adobo plate but im not with the familiar with other flavorings other than what I grew up with..but it was still good whatever it was. The other pork dish had the flavoring of a Filipino soup called sinagaun (again forgive my spelling) it was also really good. The pancit was just like my aunties and the lumpia was fabulous. Just wish it came with a sauce to dip it into. I usually get a sweet chili sauce in the Asian isle for dipping. I wish I would had asked for plastic utensils because my hungry but couldn't make it all the way back so I pulled over to get my grub on but there was nothing to eat it with and I wasn't trying to get all Filipino and eat the old fashion way with my hands like I remember my elders eating like. So I grabbed the only feasible thing that allows ur hands while driving and it of course was the Shanghai lumpia which is probably the best finger food hands down driving or whatever ur doing period. Kusinas just opened, I think they will iron out all the little kinks in no time. No one answered the phone for a food order but maybe they were too busy to handle that. They do have a help wanted sign posted. I would totally return there probably in about a month and see what new items they may have on the menu. I read the other reviews and I think a few were kind of harsh on them. They did just opened . Its like a new television show. It takes a minute to get the kinks out. Some earlier shows are ok to watch like friends first season but I wouldn't want to watch the Simpsons 1st season. The characters are totally not the same. Every place finds their niche and I think there food was good and authentic . It could use more on for choices but i know that comes in time. So I recommend it totally and if u don't know what it is, just ask. They are all...
Read moreI picked up takeout for dinner. I really wanted to rate this place higher, believe me I love Filipino food, and Modesto has no restaurants, or at least last that long. A prior place by a casino on McHenry was Fil Am Bros, but they no longer exist. May be due to the pandemic, or people are real unfamiliar with Filipino food. Again, I wanted to give this place a 5 star review, but the combo plate I ordered was okay. I also asked to get the Barbeque pork and chicken Skewers as an a la cart request and they were flexible the order. That is a plus, instead of charging three separate Combo Plates. However, the barbeque was rather bland. It seems like they just doused the meats in some sauce and grilled it on the spot. For improved tastes, the skewered meats really should be marinated at least overnight. Pros: There's local Filipino Restaurant less than a mile from my house. I guess I'll go there for a quick Filipino dish fix. Cons: Like I mentioned earlier, the meats and sauces are bland in my op. I forgot to mention the Pancit is also very tasteless. Also the Shanghai Lumpia are so minuscule, like the size of half my thumbs! It was soggy and crunchless. Being so small, how can it be so un-crunchy? I highly recommend Jeff's Cuisine in Atwater, or Papa Urb's In Tracy or Stockton. At least Modesto has Filipino Cuisine - They should improve on the flavors though. For the owners that read this review please don't think I am trashing on this place; I really want you to thrive, since Filipino food is rare over than the Chinese/Japanese/Korean blended restaurants Modesto has to cater to the unfamiliar with lesser known...
Read morePurchased a pork adobo plate, lumpia Shanghai, and A Side of the caldereta. Adobo tasted pretty spot on. Came with a decent serving of rice and meat. The noodles that came with the plate were good as well. The caldereta was mad with beef chuck and was cooked down pretty well. However I would have imagined for a beef stew that it would have been served a little hotter. Was warm more than hot. But I also like my food piping hot. Lastly the lumpia shanghai. They charge the same price for all lumpia which kinda bothered me. They charge 2.95 for 6 mini lumpia which seems outrageously pricey when you can get the same for 1 dollar at other restaurants in Modesto.
Overall I would recommend this plate for the price and amount of the plate. But not the lumpia. They were excellent in taste and crunch, but...
