I've finally gotten used to ordering by kiosk - good thing I don't have any questions about the menu. But wait, there's more ! In its latest move to de-humanize its restaurant, Steak and Shake has now introduced scanning for drinks. Up until now, once you finished ordering, you walked over to the drink station and served yourself a drink. Now you have to scan for it. After I ordered, a little notice flashed on the screen for about five seconds after I finished paying. It was gone too quickly to really read it, but I caught the words "scan' and 'drink.' I was confused because I'd already ordered a drink, but then I noticed another slip of paper come out of the kiosk with my receipt and I concluded that I needed to scan it. So I put it under the kiosk and heard a little beep, then went and got my drink as usual. My husband wanted catsup for his fries, and there was a stack of the tiny cups used for condiments next to a faucet -looking piece of hardware, and he kept trying to get catsup from it but couldn't get any to come out. When the next customer tried to get their drink, we learned that it wasn't a catsup pump -- it was a scanner for getting drinks! Except it wasn't working for that, either. So the drink dispensers are locked, and will only dispense soft drinks if the customer scans the slip of paper with the code on it -- but there's precious little warning and no instructions given. And since the catsup pump/scanner by the drinks isn't working, the customer has to walk back to a kiosk at the entrance to scan it. During the time we were there, six other customers tried unsuccessfully to get their drinks until someone came out and told them about the new scanning system. One customer remarked, "stuff like this is why we haven't been coming here and we won't be back." I overheard a man tell his wife, " We have to figure out how to order the meal and pay for it ourselves, and get the drinks ourselves, and then we have to go to the counter and pick up the food ourselves, and NOW we have to figure out how to order the drinks a second time, and then they ask for a tip?" The food is tasty, but WHY does it have to be such an ordeal to get it? Take a look at your demographics -- you are driving away your older customers who grew up on Steak and Shake. And my husband never did...
Read moreHorrible place to dine. I've had two bad experiences in the past 6 months. I won't go back. Last visit was 9/22/13. I ordered single bacon w/cheese and fries. Hubby ordered a double with fries and a chocolate shake. The steakburger was paper thin and small. You could actually see the bun thru the meat patty on my sandwich. So small I couldn't even taste meat with the bun and condiments. Much smaller diameter than the bun.
Hubby's chocolate shake wasn't served with the meal as requested. Had to remind staff three times to get his shake. He ordered chocolate While the shake was chocolate it had big chunks of strawberries in it. He hates strawberries It was served after he was almost finished with his meal, when it was to be with his meal. He was grossed out thinking they used a dirty glass that held a strawberry shake before.
We were never offered silverware or napkins even after multiple requests to our server and passing servers. We were left having to wipe our fingers and mouths on our sleeves. We requested the shake be taken off our bill, no apologies were made and we were required to wait quite awhile when the cashier left to get approval. The shake was removed from the bill. In my opinion the whole meal was a bad experience and at minimum an apology was in order. My last prior visit to this restaurant I ordered a BLT sandwich. They only put a limp half strip of bacon on each half of the sandwich. I won't be going back and I don't...
Read moreThe last 4 times we have walked out. No one to greet and seat. Tables empty but full of prior guests plates and trash. When we did finally get seated, the waitress sat us at a booth that had a wet floor sign in front of the booth seat? The floor was in fact wet and the seat was partially blocked by the sign. So we moved over to another booth. It took forever to get our drinks in it took forever to get our food order and when we did get our food it was incorrect. Our waitress Didn't bother to check on us but once so we actually had to go to the counter and ask the manager who was cooking the burgers if we could get some service. Once he did come over he checked on us refreshed our drinks which needed badly refresht also got part of the order that the waitress missed instead of having the waitress dude herself he took care of it. As we were sitting there waiting our waitress mentioned that she was brand new and still Training. If she were still training where was her trainer and why wasn't her trainer at our table or prompting her to check on us? It was an overall badge experience there's never enough staff and when there is staff nobody is doing anything but talking in the back. It's unfortunate because we do like steak and shake I don't think we'll be back to this location. Unless for some reason they re staff or up their game I wouldn't bother going we were there for over an hour and it should have been...
