We have been long time customers of Monroe Diner and I am sad to write this review. Since Covid, food quality has declined and they have drastically shortened their menu and hours leaving it a shell of what it once was.
The cooks seem to have lost their desire to create good "Diner" food. Diner staples like home fried potatoes and real "Diner" french fries are gone, replaced by frozen greasy hash browns and hard shoe string fries ... both are served still white and barely cooked. The chicken used in sandwiches seems precooked and tough. The chocolate cream pie is often beyond its best date, having dried out/tough edges. The cheesecake is mushy and underbaked. Pancakes have a burnt grill taste to them. Eggs are always way undercooked. The turkey on the club sandwich is overly thick and dry and the bacon is cold and rubbery.
True "Diners" are supposed to be opened late. The Monroe Diner hours are ridiculous for a Diner, let alone a restaurant. Monroe Diner closes at 8, way before most restaurants in the area. And when showing up at 7 or 7:30 to eat dinner, you are greeted by a warning from the hostess that the kitchen is closing soon. Not very welcoming. Gone are the days of, "Let's hop in the car and go to Monroe Diner for a cheeseburger with fries or a dessert" after an evening out.
I want to see this Diner do well and hope my review spurs positive change. Folks, the pandemic is over. Time to behave like a real Diner with expanded hours and food options. Or, change your name to Monroe...
Read moreTry not to go here if possible. The food was pricey for what it’s worth and it’s not worth much! I went to dinner here with my mom and my sister and all of our meals had issues. First mine- I got the chicken caesar wrap with fries and coleslaw. Lets start with the wrap itself. The chicken was undercooked, and when brought up to the manager she blamed it on “the chicken distributor”! It was undercook?! Not tasting bad? The fries, every few fries would just be hard and undercooked as well. Same with my mothers meal. The coleslaw was drowning in mayo. I am an avid coleslaw enjoyer and boy oh boy did this one fail my expectations. My sister got the chicken parm and it just sucked! It was soggy and the pasta with sauce tasted incredibly watery. The chicken was over cooked, which is surprising that they could actually cook it this time.
Worst tasting of all was the french onion soup. When I tell you that this tasted like the bottom of the ocean I mean it! It also just looked unappealing as well. This soup was just upsetting and gross. I’ll say- my mom got the turkey club and it was alright, nothing more.
The food and flavors was just meh. If you are hungry and nothing else is open it’s alright I suppose but I suggest going someplace else- especially with the prices for...
Read moreThis is honestly the WORST diner I have ever been to. I came here once two years ago when I moved to newtown and had food poisoning for 2 weeks, the only reason I ever considered going back to this establishment was when we lost power to our entire town. Well I decided to go 45 minutes before closing and waited in line for 20 minutes with all of the staff just walking by, clearly seeing me with a menu in hand, then finally when I get to the counter to place an order they tell me the kitchen is closed. There were 10 booths filled with people and food still clearly coming out of the kitchen. I worked for years in the food industry and was absolutely appalled by their actions, so I went to a lovely Chinese food place about 25 minutes south of where I live and gave them 70$ of business and an extra 40$ tip just for helping me 15 MINUTES before they actually closed... I WOULD NOT recommend this place to anyone under any...
