Let me say first that Monterrey, when they were in the old building, used to be good. The building was a bit yucky, but the food and service were very good. Since they moved into the new building, I am not a fan. The food is fairly horrible and the chairs are too high for the tables (the booths are fine). So... I had to go as part of a group on Wednesday, February 15, 2017... the birthday girls choice. Okay, whatever, I can deal for one evening, right? When we are brought to our table, I see that there are four small, two person tables pushed together for our 9-10 people plus gifts, etc. The chairs are literally touching each other. At least two of us are going to be "in the crack" between two tables. So, I ask the gentleman if he can add one more small table (there are two empty ones right next to the four and all the others around us are empty as well). In fact, now might be a good time to point out that the restaurant is way less than half full. He utterly refuses, telling me that there is seating for ten. I try to explain that I understand that but we are going to be awfully crowded and would like one more table. He will not budge and after a few minutes I give up, not wanting to be the one to ruin the birthday. In addition to this horrible refusal to provide customer service, that would have cost them nothing, the person taking our order was rude and dirty plates were not cleared off after we were done with them -- quite a few sat on the table until after we left. Do yourself a favor and skip this place... drive the extra 15 minutes to the Monterrey...

Weekday Lunch Time...we ate on your patio at 2:21 pm. It was our first time to your restaurant. We ordered Lunch veggie burrito for there and one to go. The were around 8.99 on your menu. The female server.was seen 2 times during our visit. take order and bring the bill with the to-go order..When we received our bill, she charged us dinner menu price and refused to accommodate us but offered to take the food back because they would eat it and she said that twice. We just wanted to get what we ask for. It's not our fault it was dinner portion. we had no way of knowing what portions are on dinner menu. We ask to see the manager after she again offered to basically eat it herself and bring us the smaller portion. She changed 1 to lunch price and refused to change the other. Its not the price its her attitude about the situation. The my son said what ever...we will just pay. I said I know I am being a BiT&h but it's not fair. She got really rude and said yeah yeah yeah....whatever have a nice day as she went inside. I know there are 2 sides to every story...but she was hiding the fact that she messed up and was asking us to pay for it. I thought you should know before I post on Yelp or Google reviews. The food was awesome and I would love to have eaten there again, but not if service is like that. It's unfortunate that she felt the need behave in the way that she did. I mean....why would she offer to give us the smaller entre and make us wait for her mistake??? Is that...

One of the best Mexican restaurants in a town with many good ones, and arguably the only one that gives my personal favorite Taqueria La Unica a run for its money. The clearest advantage Monterrey has over La Unica is its excellent patio seating. Food quality and service tend to be somewhat better than La Unica's as well, although La Unica has definitely stepped up their game on those fronts in recent months. As an added bonus, and as a way to further set it apart from Monroe's many other Mexican restaurants, Monterrey participates in the AAdvantage Dining program, meaning you can earn a few hundred American Airlines miles every time you eat here (assuming you're a frequent flier on AA, of course). Still, there's one area in which La Unica still reign supreme: the chips and salsa! La Unica offers free pico de gallo and even free queso in addition to their excellent chips and salsa, which is something I've never seen at any other Mexican restaurant. If Monterrey could somehow pull off a similar service, it would be hard for me to find a reason to go anywhere else for...

Went out with my Wife..Had an excellent meal..the service was outstanding and the food was great..as we were seated we were brought chips and salsa, and we ordered some queso to go with them...delicious!...we each ordered something different ...something " new" besides the normal Mexican fare..Just to change things up..my wife ordered the Arroz Camrones (?? )...it was shrimp with peppers, onions, rice with queso and avocado salad...she Loved it and let my try a bite ...very tasty !!..I ordered the Pancho Villa...A steak smothered with Bacon, Mushrooms, Cheese sauce with rice and refried beans..The flavor was amazing...the steak was just a tad bit overcooked compared to how I like it, BUT, Our server didn't ask how I wanted it, nor did I tell her, soooooo...lol...it was cooked between medium rare and medium...was a little tough ( just a little) but like I said , was packed with flavor...we've dined here several times before and will most definitely be back... always happy after eating here..😁

The food came out quickly and there was plenty for one person. The large beer is ridiculously large, but if you're thirsty it may work for you (see picture). The fajitas texanas were good. Shrimp, steak, and chicken. The chicken and shrimp were better than the steak in my opinion, but the steak wasn't bad. Just a little chewy in spots. The sides were the standard - rice, refried beans, Pico de Gallo, and guacamole. For one person with the giant beer it was $38 after 20% tip. The beer was $8.95, so you'd be closer to $30 for just the meal and tip. There are less expensive options on the menu than the fajitas texanas, and there are less expensive fajita meals. Overall it was a good experience, the food was quality, the service was good, and it didn't take very long from when I arrived until I had food in front of me.

My wife and I are native Texans and are searching for good Mexican food in Monroe. I gave this place 2 stars solely for the good service. The salsa was mostly tomatoes and no cilantro that I could taste. The queso was some weird runny cheese sauce, I thought it would thicken up after it cooled but it didn't. They didn't have homemade flour or corn tortillas which is a big disappointment for any Mexican restaurant. The carnitas were dry and the taco meat was so greasy my wife couldn't finish her taco salad. We will be trying a new restaurant every week until we find something more authentic.
