If I could give this place less stars, I would. I'm incredibly angry my husband and I stopped here on our cross country trip. (We grew up near Harrisburg PA and now live in CO) We had several Pittsburgh friends relentlessly hound us that this place is the absolute best and that we needed to try it out. So we went out of our way to get off the turnpike to give this place a shot. It was a complete waste of an hour and a half of our lives...
We both got the Pitts-burger, which seemed to be their flagship item. I got mine without slaw, my husband with slaw. I didn't mind the French fries on the sandwich (I've put them on my own burgers before) but my husband thought they were too squishy and not crispy enough. I expected the meat to taste more like and have the consistency of a regular hamburger patty. It did not.... It tasted and had the consistency more along the lines of a meatball or a slice of meatloaf. It was also very bland. My husband describes his sandwich as biting through a chunk of mashed potatoes.
Service was incredibly bad. We waited about 10 -15 minutes before the waitress even came to take our drink order. We placed our food order when we placed our drink order and proceeded to watch as two tables sat after us received their food. The couple at the table next to us were able to eat and settle their tab before we even got our food. During our meal, the waitress passed our table several times without checking in, and getting the bill took forever. In attempting to pay, we were simply going to leave the money on the table because she was taking so long, but we were seated next to the bathroom and didn't want someone else to walk off with it.
Needless to say, we will not be visiting this place again. And if this is supposed to be one of the better places to eat in Pittsburgh, I'd hate to visit the rest of their restaurants!
Don't waste you time and effort on this place! On our whole trip back to CO, we wanted to try local restaurants instead of just grabbing fast food but I'd much rather go to Mc Donald's over...
Read moreI was excited to take my mother here as it would be her first time eating at Primanti's. However, when we walked in, we were stuck waiting at the podium for 5 or 6 minutes before we even saw an employee. The woman didn't even greet us, but just told us to follow her before telling us to sit down at one of the booths. We weren't even given napkins or silverware. We waited for over twenty minutes before the waitress even came over to take our order for drinks, and when we asked for the napkins and silverware, we were ignored. Another 10 minutes passed before the waitress came back with our drinks, and took our order. After that point, we waited another 40 or so minutes for our food to come out. We both would've understood all of this if the place was under-staffed or crazy busy, but we were only one of two groups in the place, and the other group had already had their food. We really wanted to try to enjoy the experience, so I started trying to tell my mother this was just an off-day for the place, and it normally wasn't like this, but when our food finally did come out, and my mother asked for utensils and a napkin, the waitress threw her hands up and scolded my mother telling her "You will have to wait", before storming off to the hostess, and very loudly complaining about us, and the fact that she has to be at work today. It was at this point, that we finally had enough. When the waitress was finished with the hostess, we asked to speak to the manager, who was very nice and understanding of where we were coming from, and even offered to take our food off the bill (we didn't eat much, if any of it since the waitress was so rude). We ended up paying our bill, and I left feeling very embarrassed that I even recommended eating there in the first place with how we were treated by everyone but the manager. I really wanted my mother to have a good first experience here, but I couldn't deny how bad this one was. I've eaten at different Primanti Bros. For years with friends and family, but I don't think I'll be going back...
Read moreI love this place! But I did have 1 notable bad experience. I'm not sure why the server treated me so badly and even lied to me. (I asked for a few packs of get poupon mustard and she said they discontinued it) she didn't bring my food. Ever. Like at all. I had to watch my party eat, and when it was about time to leave I asked they please wrap my food to go. The server never came to refill drinks. She didn't upsell either. (I would've ordered a bloody Mary if she had) when I asked they wrap my food to go, they discovered it was never ordered! The manager was very apologetic and removed the food from my bill plus removed the drinks we ordered. (Proper routine for a horrible experience at a restaurant) this was acceptable compensation. Yes, I am a somewhat regular of this franchise, and yes, I would recommend! I love the food. I love the environment! I'm not gonna let 1 bad server ruin a place I like to go! (I'm also not going to sit in her section either! I also helped the VERY ACCOMMODATING and THOUGHTFUL hostess to clear the table she sat us at to give us more space for the "babe in arms" in our party. Admission of guilt: I only tipped 18% of the adjusted bill for the poor service. I'd have liked to leave a penny. (That's an insult to service in the industry) but I'm nicer than that. Maybe this server just needs to rethink her life choices and career. Who knows what she has going on outside of work. Or maybe she's a racist. Who knows? All in all, ya just can't pass on a PB original! I've been going there since they were only on the strip! (That's a really long...
