Lord Empanada – Where Argentina and Pesto Pasta Walk Into a Bar…
I came to Lord Empanada expecting a glorious Argentinian feast, but my first battle wasn’t with the menu—it was with the parking lot. It’s tiny. Like, “is this actually a parking lot or a social experiment?” tiny. If you manage to snag a spot, consider yourself chosen by the empanada gods. If not, well… there’s always street parking and a mild existential crisis.
Now, onto the food.
I did a double-take when I saw chicken pesto pasta on the menu. I mean, I was here for empanadas, not a culinary identity crisis. But because I have the self-control of a raccoon in a trash can, I ordered it. And you know what? It was good. Confusing, but good. Somewhere, an Italian and an Argentine chef are fistfighting in the afterlife, but that’s not my problem. 4/5.
Empanada Time – A Rollercoaster of Emotion
Like any responsible adult (read: someone with no impulse control), I ordered a variety of empanadas: birria, spicy asada, mushroom, and apple pie. Each came with a sauce, and let me tell you—the sauce was the unsung hero of the night. I took my first bites plain, feeling all smug like I was conducting some kind of high-level flavor analysis. But then I dipped them in the sauce, and it was like discovering that socks exist for Crocs. Game-changer.
Birria: My least favorite. It felt like it needed a pep talk and a hug. The meat lacked depth, and the consomé was just kind of… there. Like elevator music, but in empanada form. 2.5/5.
Mushroom: The absolute MVP. A delicious, umami-packed bite of earthy, woodsy goodness. The oil-based sauce that came with it? A spicy, herby elixir of the gods. It had a sneaky back-throat heat that made me briefly consider drinking it straight. I didn’t, because I was in public and still have some dignity (barely). 4/5.
Spicy Asada: A different kind of heat than the mushroom. This one hit the front of my taste buds first, like it wanted to be noticed. The texture was more minced beef than steak, which wasn’t what I expected but still worked. 3.5/5.
Apple Pie: It was apple pie. In an empanada. Exactly as advertised. No surprises. No plot twists. Just apple pie with caramel sauce, which, honestly, was a nice way to wrap up this emotional journey. 2.5/5.
Final Thoughts
Service? Quick and friendly. Parking? A competitive sport. Would I return? Absolutely. Would I still overanalyze the chicken pesto pasta? Yes. Would I finally drink the sauce straight from the container? Ask me on my third visit.
Final Verdict: 3.75/5 – Would fight for...
Read moreLord Empanada is like one of those hole in a wall places that you need to know about. I say hole in the wall, because this place is a little hidden and I drove past it. The parking lot was small so you do need to find parking. There was a sign saying you can park across the street as well.
Everyone I talked to was nice. The cashier I spoke with is approachable and fun to talk to. She was able to help me answer all my questions and provide recommendations. She knew her stuff. By the way, I loved the recommendations.
I got the beef (the Empanada that started it all for Lord Empanada), birria (another recommendation), and an apple pie.
The beef and the birria that were recommended were so delicious! The meat was tender, and they didn't skimp on the fillings.
The chimichurri sauces that came with it were so good. I'd definitely buy it the next time I'm there. It tasted like it was infused with garlic and herbs. yum!
The apple pie was ok and not a favorite. I should have gone savory instead of sweet. But my friend did compare it to tasting like a McDonald's apple pie, so it wasn't bad tasting. Just not for me.
Overall, I will definitely come back if I'm in the area. Another one to add to the books. Come check them out! I didn't dine in and did take out. It's still delicious, even when I...
