We have come to Big Sky every year for the past 15yrs, sometimes multiple times a season, and this year our hotel concierge at The Summit told us we had to try a new place that opened up at Town Center called The Rocks. We are from NY and travel and eat our way all over the world, so we have really high food expectations, are even maybe a little food obsessed, and have tried pretty much every recommended restaurant in Big Sky (some with better results than others). We know our stuff, so trust me when I say you HAVE TO TRY THE ROCKS!
This space used to be the local liquor store, and actually still has a a small version of the store in the back, but now has a nice bar and a few tables. They have awesome wines by the glass, take their cocktails seriously, and offer tastings and flights from the store too. The menu offers flatbreads, salads, and other small plates, with all local ingredients. Some of the dishes had a little Asian influence, which was a little unexpected, but really well-done. Everything we ate was perfect! I am, honestly, a little skeptical of any restaurant in Montana that offers Asian choices, but had to try the bison pho, because how could you not? It was great! Who would've thought?! My friend had a flatbread that had bison, mushrooms, a local cheese, arugula, and a balsamic reduction. If it had been served in a restaurant in NY it would have been 3x the price and still worth it. Everything was delicious.
You have to try this place! Whoever is the chef back there knows what they're doing, and is really talented. We can't wait to come back another day this week. I only wish they took reservations! If they had a space up in the Mountain Village they would be packed beyond capacity and put all the other places to shame. Take the little ride down to Town Center and go here, just trust me,...
Read moreTonight my girlfriend and I visited this local gem. Big Sky locals have been raving for weeks about this being one of the only places in town with soups. To our surprise, they only had two soups on the menu. We both ordered the Pho and it was decent. The one thing that ruined the Pho was the lack of napkins. Who serves soups without napkins? Here I am, on a date, dripping soup from my mouth and beard. Disgusting. Toward the end of the meal I had soup everywhere. On my face, my legs, my hair, my feet, on my right elbow, my chest hair somehow got souped on, my ear was wet but I'm not sure if it was soup (probably was soup) and all over my hands. Oh and I shook someones hand and my hands were wet with soup and I could tell he was judging me. Obviously, I am a messy eater and require a napkin at all times. Once we were done eating, we waited for a while for the check. We almost dined and dashed but its a small town and word travels fast. So we waited and waited, until finally the server brought the check. Overall, I would recommend this to people who clean themselves on their t-shirts and enjoy the thrill of considering a...
Read moreNewly opened bar/restaurant/liquor purveyor. The owner-operators could not be more accommodating and more welcoming. It is wonderful to be greeted warmly with genuine hospitality. It is also quite welcome that this place is open in the off season, when so many other places shut down.
We very much enjoyed the food we ordered. The soups were innovative and very well prepared. The flat bread offerings are unique, fresh and well prepared as well. We look forward to returning and giving the bar a shot, along with another nice meal.
Big plus, open lunch and dinner. Big Sky is tough place to find...
