Dan & Day's Burgers and Shakes — Restaurant in Montclair

I was looking forward to trying this burgers and visiting this new place in Montclair. Unfortunately I had a really bad experience here. My family and I were constantly ignored by the waiter, he helped everyone else, except us, even though he constantly made eye contact with us and soon ignored us each time. We waited about 40 minutes for our food (3 orders), we sat outside and when we finally decided to go inside and ask for our food (bc the waiter never cared to asked us if we needed anything even though he saw us sitting at our table). My husband went inside and when he asked for our food ( In a respectful way) the waiter came to the front and just took a bag that had our food in it and hand it to my husband without saying a word. It was then when our suspicions were clear. The waiter didn’t like us for whatever reason…..and it was very obvious to us during those 40 minutes that we were being discriminated by the waiter at this place. I can’t comment about the food bc you can only imagine how emotionally disturbed we were after having such unpleasant experience.

Sep 30/24 reply: No, definitely not a fake review. And I didn’t confused this place with another. I live in the neighborhood. In fact, I was just walking my dog last week ( on the side of your sidewalk, you know, by the corner, across from the bank, near the chocolate shop! Next to the balloon store. No, I’m not confused) and your waiter GUY was outside sitting by the tables that are located outside. Legit story....

There’s a lot of these new burger places popping up that are trying to be a step above fast food. You got your shake shacks, five guys, and 3000 burgers or whatever it’s called. I’ve tried a lot of them and yeah they look good. You put the greasy food in your mouth, it tastes good, and you go home somewhat happy while going in and out of a food coma. The Americans dream. The only draw back though, from my metric for success, is that they’re never anything to write home about. Nothing special.

However, Dan & Days I would write home about. Heck, I’d actually drive from home (30min away) to get some food from them. That’s a bold statement.

The food is fresh and made to order The food is somehow not greasy or leaving me with that “I’m dying” feeling The menu is plenty, but not too much leaving you wondering how they stock all this product without waste or having to freeze it The environment is friendly and clean They’re right by the public lot so it’s easy to get to Family owned and NOT operated by low energy teenagers who leave you feeling like they’re doing you a favor. Lastly, and my biggest takeaway, they make their own sauces. As someone who spent 10 years in the restaurant business I can say it’s the small things that count. The sauces really make it special and separate them...

One of my favorite burger spots in the area!

I used to go to Stuffed Grassfed Burgers in Montclair a couple years back and was sad when they closed. However, they rebranded and opened here, and I am once again happy!

Dan & Day's is a solid spot with friendly staff to have a casual hangout and get some burgers. They still offer the Bacon Jam from their old establishment on their Bacon Jam burger, which is one of my go-to items! I have had a bunch of their other burgers such as the classic original burger, Patty Melt, Wagyu Smash, and various specials and have not been disappointed yet!

If you are into sides, I do enjoy all their specialty fries (Wagyu Smash, Bacon Jam, and Aged White Cheddar). When I am especially hungry, I will look to get a different combination of burger and fries (like one is Wagyu Smash and the other is Bacon Jam), so I can taste a wide variety! I will sometimes switch it up and get Onion Rings, which are also a solid choice!

For the sweet tooth, it is tempting to go to other establishments nearby for dessert, but their milkshakes are great too! Lookout for their special shakes as well.
