In the times of COVID-19 it is nice to know you have places like Beard Papa's in MP (Monterey Park) that cater to your daughter's (& your) hankering for some b-day cream puffs. Easy ordering online through the Clover app (also see link in IG - @beardpapasmpk). Ordered online while we were two minutes away. Waited in the car for a few minutes thinking they needed the "30 minutes" to fill the puffs but sent in the other daughter & they were ready. Friendly employee at work around 6:45 p.m. according to my daughter.
As always, flaky cream puff shell & ooey-gooey delicious cream filling inside. Plaza is so lonely so pay them a visit for that sweet but not too sweet cream puff craving. Puffs range from ~$2.80 for original to little over $3.40 each. Believe me - well worth it. Tip #1: Try the crème brûlée puff - that caramelized puff shell gives it a different flavor dimension. At least try one!!! Tip #2: Order ahead & walk-in for pick up or curbside pickup. Tip #3: Tip the employee(s). Running a business is never easy & during these times it is even worse. Be kind, wear a mask, & be safe. Thanks to Bear Papa's MP my daughter celebrated her 21st with a huge smile on her face....
Read moreI went to this Beard Papa's & bought the Mix & Match dozen for around $30, as a replacement for a birthday cake. It was a decision I'm glad I made bc the cream puffs are stable, hold well, portable, & can be baked or airfried to maintain their crispiness. . Most cream puffs sold in bakeries & donut shops are refrigerated & prefilled so the bread is already cold & moist. When I think of cream puffs, Beard Papa's is my standard due to their filling which is a mix of whipped cream & custard, very thick, large amount, & delicious without being too sweet, a proper choux pastry. They only fill the pastry when you order so they're not all mushy & cold. I'd say 2 cons are: they are quite expensive if you are not used to these kind of choux puffs, another 'con' is there's so much cream in each puff, you could easily put it onto another pastry for extra deliciousness. The excess cream can make your eating area quite messy 😅. No bathrooms. Seating inside & outside. Free wifi. There are also drinks. Street parking can be difficult, but there's a backlot with lots of...
Read moreThey have a variety of cream puff shells to choose from: original, chocolate eclair, honey butter, oreo cookie crumble, s'mores eclair, creme brulee, etc. They also have a variety of filling flavors. This location seems to serve three different filling flavors a day. If you are trying to get a specific filling flavor, I suggest you call ahead to check. They also have ice cream puffs available. They even have drinks available as well. If you order 6 cream puffs in one transaction, you get a $1 discount. If you order 12 cream puffs, you get a $3 discount. They also have a stamp card that allows you to get a discount after a certain number of visits.
I have not found a place that makes better tasting cream puffs. The creme brulee and honey butter shells are my favorites but they make everything more sweet so opt for an original shell if you don't want something as sweet. The creme brulee puff tastes the best if consumed within 15 minutes. My bf enjoyed the hong kong milk tea ice cream puff. Definitely going to go back to try more...
