The wind howled like a banshee. The rain lashed against my skin. I had been adrift for what felt like years—wandering from store to store, drowning in an ocean of flimsy end tables and overpriced chaises, my soul battered by the relentless storm of bad customer service.
And then, I found her.
Ashley. The great, hulking temple of home décor, standing tall against the raging squall of mediocrity. Her showroom lights flickered like the beacons of a distant lighthouse, guiding the weary homeward. But standing at the gates, barring passage to the unworthy, was Tommy.
Tommy the Unyielding. The Keeper of Discounts. The Watchman of the Warehouse. He Who Knows the Weight of a Good Recliner.
He stood before me, weathered as an old sea captain, eyes sunken but burning with the fire of knowledge only he could bear. His coat, tattered from years in the trade. His hands, calloused from lifting countless armoires, dressers, and unholy amounts of discount ottomans.
“Ye think ye know comfort, do ye?” he rasped, voice like a shipwreck grinding against the rocks. “Think ye can just waltz in here and claim a throne fit for the gods? Nay, lad. Furniture’s a cruel mistress.”
He circled me, sizing me up like a man who’d seen too many fools sink beneath the weight of an ill-chosen sectional.
“These tables? Sturdier than the hull of an old whaling ship. These couches? Softer than a mermaid’s whisper, aye. But not just any man can handle such majesty. Ye got the mettle for it? Can ye bear the burden of true comfort? Or will ye crumble like so many before ye, weeping into the cushions of regret?”
A pause. The wind shrieked outside.
I swallowed my fear. “Show me the best you’ve got.”
A terrible grin split his weathered face, teeth glinting like ivory in the dim showroom glow. “Aye,” he said, clapping a hand upon my shoulder, the weight of a thousand furniture deliveries in his grip. “That’s the spirit. Welcome to Ashley.”
And so, I followed him into the depths of the showroom, where legends were forged and weak chairs were sent to die.
Let it be known: If ye seek furniture that will outlast the tides of time, the weight of life, and the fury of the storm—ye seek Tommy, the Keeper of Ashley. But beware. Once ye set foot in his domain… ye may...
