The actual restaurant and ambiance are gorgeous. Loved it. We arrived 10 minutes after our reservation, but we did call ahead to let them know and they were completely fine with it. However, when we were seated, the hostess said âjust so you know the next reservation for this table is at 1:15.â So this is just an hour later. We were 10 minutes late. Perhaps she misspoke, but even if we arrived on time we wouldâve had just an hour and fifteen minutes to eat. If this was true and she didnât say the wrong time, an hour and fifteen minutes isnât a lot of time. On average, dining time is 90 minutes to two hours. In any event, Iâve never been told in an implied manner that we have x amount of time to eat. Why not tell us that when we called to say weâd be 10 minutes late and we couldâve picked another restaurant?
It then took another 20 minutes before our server came, and it was only because someone in our party went to ask the hostess since we only had this supposed hour limit to eat. The server was completely apologetic and very courteous and professional. She did say she would speak to the manager so we could get some type of discount for the inconvenience. We never got a discount.
The food was ok. I got the crab eggs Benedict and that was probably the flop of our table. The yolks were completely solid. It was basically a boiled egg on an English muffin and some crab meat. The sauce was scarce and no garnish. It was just a pile off off white layers. The bananas foster French toast was delicious though! And the other two plates were good but I thing memorable. But the eggs Benedict was unforgivable for that price and shouldâve been free.
We will likely give this place another chance as I donât believe they are typically open for brunch and you could tell there were some kinks to work through. Another example is we were told the kitchen was backed up so the sooner we knew our order the better. This wasnât communicated rudely or anything, but not expected for a restaurant that looked this nice at...
Read moreThe atmosphere at NAPA K+B is fantastic - in fact, I added a star because it is so nice. The food would have been better, but wasn't horrible, either. I'll limit my comments to what I had (sorry, no photos for this review).
Bread service: This was complementary and you could get more if you wanted. The bread was delicious and slightly warm. The butter was compound with garlic and some herbs - none of which was overwhelming. The butter was easy to spread, but there could have been more. I'm sure you could get more butter if you asked, but the initial amount was pretty small.
French Onion Soup: The cheese on top was melted, delicious, and hot. The soup was only warm - and was cold by the time I finished it. The onions were cooked as they should have been and only the interior layers that cook soft were used. The broth had a slightly sweet flavor which was unexpected, but so slight that it wasn't off-putting.
Oven-Baked Penne: The pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce was delicious, but it was rather watery. When I was finished, there was a pool of watery sauce in the dish. There was supposed to be red pepper and tomatoes in the dish. They was just chopped red pepper on the top - I did not find any tomatoes.
Creme Brulee: The custard was the correct consistency but I didn't see any vanilla bean in it. Maybe that's just a preference instead of a standard. The carmalized sugar was done well.
Service: Our server did a fine job. We were left alone for the most part, but he was attentive when he needed to be.i don't remember his name, but the waiter did a good job.
Synopsis: We did not have any issues with anything that needed immediate correction. But several at the table seemed to think their main dishes were made up ahead of time. Some other dishes were just not what was expected. Not that they were prepared incorrectly, just differently. Overall, it was nice going to a different place. I would be happy to go back and try some...
Read moreVisited here for the first time last night with 3 others for restaurant week. I have to say that honestly, this was probably one of the worst dining experiences I have in recent memory. The server knocked items off our table on two occassions. A busser who was cleaning the table next to us hit one of our friends with his dirty towel while cleaning tables. The calamari was cold, greasy and unappetizing. The risotto which came with the shrimp was also cold. The baked pasta, the cheese which was on the top was already solidified, indicating that it had been in the window for quite some time, and the meal itself was also cold. The manager was kind enough to give us a $20 gift card, which was kind of him to do. We weren't seeking anything in return, just wanted them to be aware that we were unhappy with the experience. At $98 for two meals on one check and roughly the same for our two guests, I felt it was nowhere worth the money for the service/food we received. I will not be back. I am sure that others have had great experiences here in the past, but we will be taking our...
